We have this steer trying to get him fat.  On Nov 14 weighed 1100lbs... today weighed 1154.  Been feeding about 18 lbs twice per day for over a month... including in that total one huge scoop of cooked corn and barley (mixed).  With showmaster finisher, vita champ, and power phat.  Sudan hay.
Before he had been averaging about 2.3 lbs per day.  (without the cooked corn and not as much feed per day)

and  now.... I am totally baffled at why the heck he isn't gaining...  was hoping to take the guy to Ft Worth but just not getting there... just wondered what some of you think might be the problem?  He's an American cross steer.  ???

First thing, even if you think you have it covered, Worm him with Safeguard in the feed and treat him with Corid for coccidiosis for five to seven days.  If he has the genetic potential to go and he is eating that much he should gain.  Parasites and coccidiosis steal more than many people think.  Even if they are not affected  enough to look sick these things can affect the calf's performance.

Good Luck!

Did you weigh him full or empty both times? If he was full the first time you weighed and empty the second time you will not be getting his true ADG or weight.
If you have access to a scale weigh him every day or at least once a week at the same time to get an accurate ADG, if you want his full weight weigh him in the morning after he has been fed.
We weighed every Sunday right before we kicked them out in the run, they were empty at this point but we could monitor their gain fairly accurate this way.
We weighed in the morning to get their true weight as we got closer to the show.

Their can be a 40 to 60 pound difference from morning to night or full and empty.
