Junior Hereford Breeders Sponsor Open Jackpot Show
JEFFERSON, Wisconsin (April 10, 2009) – The Wisconsin Junior Hereford Association (WJHA) is sponsoring the WJHA Open Jackpot Show on June 6-7, 2009 at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, Jefferson, Wisconsin.  The WJHA Open Jackpot Show will be held on the same weekend as the Wisconsin Livestock Breeder’s Association (WLBA) Spring Preview Show.  As this is an open show, exhibitors of all ages are eligible to enter cattle in the jackpot show.
The WLBA Spring Preview Show will be held Saturday morning, June 6.  The WJHA Junior Preview Show, which is limited to WJHA members, will be held on Saturday in conjunction with the WLBA show.  After the WLBA Hereford Show, WJHA members will have the opportunity to participate in contests including written quiz bowl tests, team marketing practice, speech and fitting contests. These contests will be used to determine state contestants for national competition. There will be a complimentary potluck banquet on Saturday night. A WJHA membership meeting will be held after the banquet to discuss state plans for traveling to the Junior National Hereford Expo, July 4-11, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The WJHA Open Jackpot Show will take place on Sunday, June 7 starting at 9 a.m. Cody Lowderman, Macomb, Illinois will judge steers, bulls, cow/calves, heifers and a showmanship contest for youth under the age of seven. Champion heifers and steers will be eligible for a $100 jackpot with $640 in total premiums to be awarded.
