Congrats! I think he did very well for a PB Hereford! It's hard for a PB Hereford to compete with the Clubbier breeds IMO! I think you did a great job with him! I am a Hereford guy, so I like them anyhow.
I would think you could cut out the PreCon and do either the Rice Bran or the Power Fuel. Not both. We feed commercial steers for HLSR and County Fair steers and have had success with a good finishing ration consisting of 43% Corn and then supplementing with Sure Champ and Power Fuel at the end...
We use the Weaver's Brightening shampoo on our Herefords and it works really well, better than the whitening shampoo. It seems to break down the caked on manure also.
Thanks, we are planning on going to the State Show next summer, not sure about Jr. Nationals yet. This is our first Hereford, and we are really having fun with her.
thanks, in this picture she had only been on the halter for 45 days, and honestly that is how long she had been weaned. So, yes she was pretty green, only on feed for 45 days. Thanks for the comment.
This is my sons heifer we got in August, she is a February calf out of Unleashed Keepsake. We feel like she is pretty cool, she has been doing pretty well in the Jackpots, and she was a class winner at The State Fair of Texas in the Jr. Show, and got 3rd in her class in the Open show. We are...
I have started using the "Tattle Tail's". It is a device from PBS Animal Health.com. I used to use the Kamar's, but it seemed like they would get set off by getting under a tree limb rubbing etc. So I found these Tattle Tail's, they have 12 LED lights on them, when they first Stand for 3 seconds...
My sons Steer was doing the same thing, I asked the Vet and he said that some do more than others due to stress, nervousness, etc. but that if he was drinking ALOT of water as ours was drinking probably 20 gallons a day in the fall, then he was OK. With it being a Heifer, I would probably just...
On the leg wool we spray with Revive and blow in at least 3 days a week. Keep them muzzled except when feeding time. It will help keep that leg wool thick and easier to shape. They will sometimes pull the hair out if they get to itching (thats why we muzzle).
NICE COWS!!!! We have been showing a Simmi Heifer, but my son has decided he really would rather do Herefords, these are nice females you have. I hope we can find some nice ones, We have Angus, Simmi, and Xbred now.
I have a Charolais cow that goes over by 8-10 days every calf, but according to the Animal Repro book I have from a college class, all breeds differ from 278 days to 289 days gestation period.
