Show steer needing to eat more

Try adding liquid molasses as a top dressing on his grain. Try not giving him any hay or alfalfa, just the grain. He'll get hungry enough to eat it and then they usually develop an appetite for it. If not, that was my steer last year, get another steer and put them in the same pen. If the new...

Will I get my heifer trained in 2 weeks?

Another question, My heifer is quite fat and she is just on grass. Is there any way to lean her up a bit? She has fat pockets and an inch of fat on her ribs.

Will I get my heifer trained in 2 weeks?

Thanks, I actually can't hook her up to a machine, because we don't have the space and my dad's machines are way too big, and she walks decent enough. I've only walked them in the fast tight circles when they want to run, I'll try it when she is stuck.

Will I get my heifer trained in 2 weeks?

Thanks! I walked up to her in the field and put the halter on her and she walked fine. It's not that she moves when stopped, it's that she doesn't. I have to really pull on her and she toes out on hard ground. Decently packed dirt is fine, but any harder ground she toes out and doesn't put her...

Need feeding advice- steer lacking appetite

I had this problem last year with my steer. He didn't like grain. In Canada, we don't have access to these supplements and feed that you do, but we have local beef text that we feed. If he liked the DB, give it to him. Give him the 20 pounds right in the morning. If he doesn't finish, take it...

Will I get my heifer trained in 2 weeks?

So, my heifer has been out in pasture with the bull for just over 2 months now. I'm pretty positive she's pregnant now. She should have had 3 heat cycles by now, but the last one the bull wasn't interested in her at all. However, I have not put a halter on her since then. I get her back in the...

    Heifer Help

The shot only works if they are close to ovulation and if the heifer hasn't reached puberty it would not work.

    Heifer Help

What breed is she? Some breeds will mature later than others. I would wait until she's 15 months to be concerned. Some breeds will mature at 12-14 months of age, others earlier. If she is overweight, that could be affecting her too. How much grain do you feed her? My heifer is around 1300...

Steer needs Filler, Beet Pulp not cutting it

So, you want to keep him the same weight for a couple months, correct? First, like steer lover 4ever said, are you soaking the beet pulp? If not, you need to because it will expand in your steers stomach and can make him bloat. The beet pulp will also do it's job if it's soaked. What grain are...

    Melatonin / Hair Growth

I do see results in a month when I do these things. Also keep a fan on her.

    Melatonin / Hair Growth

I personally don't have any experience with using melatonin, but if you hose her down with cold water in the morning, at night, and in the afternoon she should start to grow her hair more if you do it everyday. Also brush her with like a curry comb/wash brush. That will help stimulate the hair...

    Steer training

Thanks! I can't see what picture or link you put on there, but I will look. I do that. But I have to hit him with my hand really hard or he ignores it.

    Steer training

Thanks! What melatonin should I buy? Like they only sell melatonin in gummy form in the stores near me for human consumption. I don't think my steer would eat gummies. He is very picky, but something that would blend in with the grain would work. I'll look online for something.

    Steer training

A nose ring could give me more control, but I don't think I can have one at the fairs.
