    Building A Cool Room

For your first question, I believe we give each calf 3-4 feet each. It gives them enough room to lay down but not be jearks and stand sideways. I am also located in CO and we use a swamp cooler. Just one. We do have air conditioners but with the dryness of CO's air, I find them to not be as...

    Rinsing Calves During Winter

I would absolutly LOVE to be able to rinse every day during the winter. I would if I could. With school and it getting dark so soon, it is just not as possible as I would like it to be. Even when it is cold, we will rinse. You just have to make really really sure that they are BONE DRY. If you...

    Jigsaw

I haven't seen him in person. I would go ahead and give Clint Filipeck a call at Prarie Clover Rances in ND. He is the one who raised him, but he will definetly tell you what he thinks and won't bs you.

    Web sites....

I like the way you think TJ. Also vote no music. I like the more natual pictures of the cattle, but they have to be good pictures. I have seen some pictures of calves that makes me wonder "why bother". I like the video clips. Doc said something about them taking too long to load, I think you...

Likewise. I've been having problems for a week or so. With DSL it shouldn't take 5 minutes to load the page. ::)

    how big?

I think we have a 5' upright showbox, and it does just fine. I do use the synthetic brush (you are talking the plastic one that most horse people use right?) and it works wonderful. I almost prefer it over the rice root beucase it actually gets down to the skin without mashing all the hair...

    wheat germ oil

We use wheat germ oil for all our calves, along with corn. The two combined seem to put weight on fairly quick. Once we started feeding it to them their hair also seemed to be softer. We topdress with 3 oz. per day. ;D

    cooling off calf

Pigguy is right. If you leave them wet the heat from their body heats up the water left on them and thus makes them much hotter than they were to begin with. Read Red's article on summer hair care. It should help a lot.

Pig Planet.......Anyone used the new Sullivan's Sole Paint?

Thats a no for me too. But I sure wish our county would get their behinds in gear. They are supposed to be building a new horse barn so us beef kids can have the whole barn instead of being crowded in half of it. Cowz do you know if they are going to have it done in time? :-\

    steer selection

When I am looking at the structure of the prospects, I always look at the feet. Where the hoof meets the 'hair line', that line should have a slight slope towards the back. I have noticed that if that hairline is level, the calf usually ends up being too straight or a cripple.
