Bin Landin in a field close to home.

When I first read the title I thought it said "Bin Laden" lol. I'm glad we live where we do and the only freaks of nature we have to worry about are the tourista in the summer!

It is soooo hot here... (compared to normal!)

Here on the east coast we had the driest spring on record and our pastures were starting to look like they do in august but we have received an inch and a half of rain since Friday so hopefully we will be fine.

    Feeding potatoes.

I did not mean to just feed potatoes as that would put him off feed pretty quick. 25 lbs/day of raw potatoes would only equal about 5 lbs dry matter. You should consult a nutritionist. I see the original poster is from Idaho so many nutritionists  in your area should have some experience feeding...

    Feeding potatoes.

Potatoes are full of carbohydrates and really help an animal finish but you will have to feed much more than 2 lbs. They are about 80% water so feeding 20-30 lbs/day would be more like it. There are two main drawbacks imo, Make sure sure you chop them up so they do not choke on them. The cattle...

    Japanese Minitrucks

Our neighbors just got one. I think they would be a good rig for running around in and they are road approved here but they had trouble getting insurance for it because of being right side driven the ins. companies said it was more dangerous. I can't see putting a rd bale in one and they...

    Spring snow 5-27-12

That is referred to around here as "poor man's fertilizer".

    What are your thoughts?

We bred him to three heifers last year (1 purebred angus and two angus cross). They calved unassisted this winter and ranged from 50-90 lbs. He added style and hair and seem to have good dispositions.

    insurance on show cattle

I recently insured our new herdsire from his travel across the country to our place and for an entire year against all causes of death for $4/thousand of value with our local mutual insurance company. I questioned them on the coverage as I think this is extremely cheap but they assured me he is...

Looking for advice on New Holland and Case tractors N/C

Interesting. We were looking at a 6020 but it is just more tractor than we need as this will primarily be a loader tractor and has some 10' doors to go thru. The new series that is out replacing that line has new emission control "junk" on them which adds a fair bit to the price tag. We have a...

Looking for advice on New Holland and Case tractors N/C

Was wondering if anyone has experience with or owns a New Holland 50 series (ex. T5050) or Case IH Farmall U series (ex. 105U) tractors and if they have had any problems with them.  Thanks

Congratulations to Corey Ford and Colby MacQuarrie for receiving Champion Limousin at the Prince Edward Island Easter Beef Show yesterday with their Eye Candy sired steer raised and sold by us. They also placed third in the Any Other Breed class with another of our Eye Candy calves. The Grand...

    Monopoly or Eye Candy?

We have calved 12 eye candy's out of angus cross cows and never touched one. He adds plenty of bone and hair. Here is a heifer out of a red angus/simmy cow.

    Connealy Thunder

Thanks for the compliments on the calves but I think they are fairly ordinary. Our Soo Line Kodiak 9195 and Mercedes Benz calves out of heifers are better groups. 4Z has potential to make a bull, as for future plans, we will probably keep them and feed them out.

    Connealy Thunder

Worthabit I would love to here about yours when they calve. Here are our two calves. 4Z was born Jan 6th  3 days late at 82 lbs from a MVF VRD Dateline heifer . He was larger framed than I expected. 19Z was born Feb 10th  6 days late at 50 lbs from a Youngdale Touchdown 36M heifer. I know some...

Frame scores - how small is too small?

The average carcass wt. in Canada last week was 886 lbs for steers up from 853 the year before and 824 for heifers up from 797 a year ago. I don't think there are too many frame 4 cattle making those weights.
