    Sublime

We put our bull Sublime in a post a year or so ago. He’s now been collected and his first calves have hit the ground and most are weaned now. They have been better than expected. We used him on a wide variety of heifers and cows and only had one pull due to presentation. Birthweights were 65 to...

    Precon vs cotton seed hulls

Nothing probably helps as well as unlimited free choice long stem hay. Precon is wonderful, but long stem first cutting hay is invaluable.

Data Bank or High Style on heifers

Griswold's have said that Databank is ok to use on 1st calf heifers, but only if they are big bodied, broody maternal bred cattle.  High Style is listed as calving ease, but I would probably call Chris Terembes and ask what they are seeing for birthweight.  I know that Moore's in Illinois used...

    Show Bull selection

If you still want to keep numbers in them look at Loverboy.  He has really good API and TI numbers and will make pretty nice females.  His bulls aren't too bad either.  I have really liked the W/C Password calves, he's a full brother to Relentless and he just makes them really complete.  If...

    Simmental bulls

If you wanted to go a little old school, Dream On will keep or add a little frame, but they will usually be solid black or red.  We've had decent luck with Maximus too, but he's a half-blood or even his sire Meyer 734.  The 734 cattle can be a little harder calving though.  Hammer will also add...

    Mini herefords

There is a family up her by us that shows and sells some pretty decent stock.  They have an AI Bull Chewbaca that is pretty good too.  They're in Ohio, but they travel quite a bit.  Lon and Michelle Chambers of EZ Farms.  Michelle is great to work with and she can be reached at 937-657-6498. ...

    OKC Bulls (Denver Bulls)

Flip side is a Here I am out of a Gold Standard (Angus).  They said he had a 65lb birthweight.  Don't think I'd put anything Here I am in a first calf heifer.  Still a nice balanced bull.  Don't know anything about the other bull other than it's another HIA son.

Who to breed this Simmental heifer to?

I looked and this was the only picture of the Hammertime bull after he covered about 20 cows as a yearling, he's pretty rung out.  We had an Uno Mas we thought was bred to Hammertime, but ended up getting bred by another bull.

Who to breed this Simmental heifer to?

We flushed one to Primo, he seems to be doing a lot of things right.  Style if you don't mind the price tag, SMA Watchout seems to be making some nice Sim-Angus and ChiAngus females, Bush's Unbelievable keeps them stout and cleans up fronts and New Game of Griswold's, but he looks a little heavy...

He’s linebred Heatwave. Solid Gold out of a Heatwave x Mossy Oak cow. On a non heatwave influenced female should breed up pretty nice.

Best Clubby Bulls for Charolais Cow

Monopoly or one of his sons seems to work the best.  Horn has been using Heatwave on maternal Charolais with some success too.

Who to breed this Simmental heifer to?

The two that come to mind for me are a 3/4 bull CDI Innovator and Hammertime a purebred.  I haven't had any calves out of Innovator and only a bull out of Hammertime, which was good enough to keep back for clean-up.  Innovator seems to make them moderate and thick without sacrificing soundness...

    Aluminum Livestock Trailers

Should have asked for a 10,000 GVWR.  With a towable over 10,000 lbs you are required to have a Class B CDL regardless of the GVWR of the combination.  The uniform traffic code applies in all states that receive Federal Funds, it's their way of twisting your arm for compliance.

DS carriers? Are they easy keeping?

We were talking about this recently about PHA carriers. Ours seems to be easier fleshing, carry more muscle, milk well and have a lot of hair, but they all go back to Irish Whiskey. Will be interesting to see what develops as technology advances including what will become mainstream.

    Uno Mas vs Brilliance

I have really liked our Uno Mas calves.  They come little, have some grow and are pretty easy fleshing.  Ours have had perfect teats and udders too with ample milk.  Attached is a 3 year old Uno Mas cow.  She also has great feet, legs and a top you could play cards on.

    HELP

If we are wanting to flush a particular cow, we give her Pg at 30 days, wait 14 days and then run the 7 day CIDR protocol on her.  Have never had a donor, not show a good heat and have a CL when under those conditions.  We typically will flush her multiple times and then leave her open to get...
