    Another Simmental Spring Breeding Question!

My Genex rep just called (Tammy Wallace), said he is $20 but has not frozen yet. They just leased him and he has to pass all his tests first. But, the good news, he is just up the road about an hour from me at Strafford, so I am going to go up on Saturday to see him! I wonder if Grizzly is gone...

    SAS Sweetmeat & BMR Explorer

Correct, it comes from the traditional color patterned Simmentals that were bred up to be black. There isn't really a list but semen companies are pretty good about listing bulls that carry the gene. The Simmental Assoc is working on a DNA marker test for the spotting gene.

Meyer Daughter , What to flush too ?

Hate to burst your bubble but if her sire is Meyer 734 then she does have a copy of the spotting gene.

    Another Simmental Spring Breeding Question!

I bought the semen through OriGen before he was carried by Genex and I got it at $20/straw. I used him on different types of cows, 3/4 AN 1/4 SM, halfbloods and some Simbrah cows too. I flushed the cow in my avatar to him. My calves are due mid September so I have a long way to go. I think he...

BEST RED SIMMENTAL BULL ON THE PLANET

I must say you're pretty bold making statements like this. I'll be in Denver Friday-Monday so I may have to stop by and see this "best red simmental bull on the planet".

    Another Simmental Spring Breeding Question!

Here's an Upgrade sired 3/4 Sim 1/4 Angus bull that might work and he has a no holes EPD profile. I sampled him on my herd this year. You'd get purebred progeny breeding him to a purebred cow. Genex carries him.

    SAS Sweetmeat & BMR Explorer

Me neither until I found out the hard way :o. If you notice in the 2012 spring Genex sire directory Explorer now has a footnote that he carries the spotting gene. You can thank me for that  ;D

    SAS Sweetmeat & BMR Explorer

I have progeny by both bulls at my place. Both will make really nice females. Sweetmeat may add a little more skin on the neck and sheath than you would like for producing club calves. He certainly adds muscle, body depth and structural correctness. His calves have great dispositions as well...

    Aborted fetus pics

I agree with Pleasant Grove, the fetus doesn't look 7 months. I had a heifer abort this past summer from heat stress at 7 1/2 months and like you was lucky to find everything intact. The aborted fetus looked fully developed and had hair but was just smaller than a fully developed calf. Sorry...

5 day co-synch CIDR Time AI - I did it!

To: LN May I ask you some questions?   ??? 1. Is Min Max II?  Is it a dry granular free choice cow mineral?  What percent salt does it contain?  What are the intake amounts (i.e. ounces per head per day) do you obtain, under normal conditions?  Who makes it?  Where do you purchase it?  What is...

5 day co-synch CIDR Time AI - I did it!

I didn't notice any cows coming in shortly after the synch. I wasn't looking for it but the cows are up in pens right now so I probably would've noticed anything in a week after. What were your results with using the 5 day protocol?

5 day co-synch CIDR Time AI - I did it!

At this point compared to last year I have done 17% less repeats! Most of my repeats have been 2 and 3 year old cows. I'm going to keep watching for a few more days and would expect a couple more. With that said I think we could end up in the low 70s for conception to the TAI which I am THRILLED...

5 day co-synch CIDR Time AI - I did it!

I used the 5 day protocol listed by ABS.

5 day co-synch CIDR Time AI - I did it!

This is mainly directed at CAB because in past topics this protocol has been discussed and I went ahead and used it on my cows this year. Last year I used the 7 day protocol and had a 53% conception rate to the time AI, good but not great. So far we're right at the peak of repeats from the 5...

    Hoof Rot

It could be just a cut if the foot isn't swollen. If the foot is swollen then there is an infection and antibiotics should be used. Noromyacin 300 has been really effective for us. Be sure to read the label because foot rot is treated at a different dosage level from pinkeye.

What is your 2012 bull lineup?

I just put the semen in a couple weeks ago. My herd consultant recommended him for powering up some of my high percentage Angus females. My target market is selling bulls to commercial breeders and I think Club King should fit the bill.

    Easy Calving Simmental Bull?

I used Explorer on 2nd calf heifers and cows and personally would not use on a first calf heifer. Some purebred Simmy bulls that would work are Triple C Singletary, Hooks Shear Force, and Grandmaster. There's also plenty of SimAngus bulls available that will calve easy. My go to CE SimAngus...

    Simmental Breeding Questions!!

If you don't want red then you should avoid Rendition, Chopper, and Steel Force since they are all hetero black.
