    Wheatland Bulls

Go to http://www.wheatlandcattle.com Their Hummer bull that won the World Simmental Congress a couple years ago is one of the most impressive Simmental bulls I have seen. Even more impressive to me was his maternal sister (they showed her at the Congress to and she was Reserve Champion Female)...

    Shorthorn - Native Breeding Stock

If the Shorthorn cattle of the 1970s were so moderate, functional, sound, productive and efficient, why were people not flocking to them at the time? With what you have brought up, they must have been the most financially rewarding cattle around - so why were the registrations falling then...

    Heatwave Alternative?

Maybe you should have named him 'Dreamin' Big,' Telos  ;)

    law suit

...Except a polygraph test is highly inaccurate in proving guilt and are not admissible as evidence in court. They simply measure physical reactions, and the results are down to the interpretation of the operator, which makes them highly subjective...

What would you do and why?

I would have done my research and this would have not happened. Unlike in Knabe's situation, the PHA test was not recently discovered in the last 2 or 5 or 7 months, so there is NO EXCUSE FOR THIS. If you insist on using a carrier bull, then you are responsible for the results. If you have not...

    Temps effect on breeding

Does this mean I can blame the AI Tech (my dad) for every time I don't get a heifer?!!  ;) ;D He'll just love that!!!

    MC Ranger

Renegade, I just sold an MC Ranger daughter this fall after many years of her working in the pasture. She wasn't the prettiest cow, but she did a good job, bred back every year, had good feet and was one of those cows nobody notices as she just went quietly about her business. I didn't use alot...

    ** SHORTHORN SEMEN SALE **

Canasta is definitely a maternally oriented bull. We calved out his first daughters this year and they have beautiful square udders (despite a couple being off cows with working, but not so pretty udders). Like Sonny, I would say his heifer calves are slightly better than his bull calves. That...

    FYI

The two heifer calves which were bought through the sale barn by a woman who kept them a couple of weeks, and then found out they matched the released description of the cattle. They were turned in and returned to their proper owners. The two bred heifers, however, were not so lucky and ended up...

Tricks for getting a cow to take a calf that is not hers???

If this happens at our place, we skin the dead calf too, like showsteerdlux suggested and duct tape it to the 'orphan' calf for a week. If your orphan is more than a week old and your dead one is a newborn, you may want to hog tie the orphan calf for twenty minutes or so that it flops around...

Where did you get your steer planet nickname????

Shorty is both the nickname of the cow in my avatar (since she was my first Shorthorn - very original, I know!!!) and one of my old nicknames, since I am a little small in stature...The rest is self-explanatory!  ;D

    Two Questions

Just make sure your calf is well-broke (way past the stage where they will struggle) before you tie him up for three days and you will have no problems - It is the same as leaving them tied over night at a show. Just make sure, when you tie them down, that you don't give them more than about a...

    Two Questions

Renegade, If your steer is well-broke and acting up anyways (he knows he's being bad by heading towards the barn but does it anyways), I find a good solution to this and most behavior problems is to tie them up for three days straight. Lead them to water, lead them to food, but when you're not...

    ** SHORTHORN SEMEN SALE **

Congrats NHR! I talked to Maverick and he is prepared to take a parentage test but he's a little afraid of talk shows  ;D Either way, sounds like a perfect-sized baby. Will you guys be taking the pair on to Junior Nationals this year?

    ** SHORTHORN SEMEN SALE **

Garybob, Thanks for the compliments! His mom is one of our best cows. She always weans her bull calves at 850-900 lbs and breeds back right on time, so you see she can really produce. NHR, the Vanity heifer was Reserve Junior Heifer Calf Champ. Looks like there was some pretty tough company...
