My first calf ever was born yesterday. His dam is a Sin City x Draftpick cow. The bull calf is very lucky to be alive. He was born backwards and upside down and weighed about 100 lbs. I have to give credit to Bill Nichols because he came out with his chains and jack and got the little guy out...

Just so we can get all the facts straight, this is a heifer you are breeding for her first calf? If so, go for the live calf, worry about other stuff later. If she has already had her first calf, any of the suggestions should be good. Is she TH free?

We have two paastures, one north of the house and the other is south of the house. I don't have any calves yet but I'm sure I will be smiling everytime I eat supper while watching the calves play.

I'm pretty sure Dr. Brown doesn't do housing. Terry Muir might (don't hold me to that). Both of those guys are very nice and easy to work with.

How old is that calf? Is it a bull or heifer? I think I might stop by and look at it sometime.

Sounds like it could be a good calf. Hope she ends up being a good one for you. I still have another month until I have any calves. They will be my first calves.
