    Full and Fresh

We loved it however showmaster quit making it or so we were told by their reps. They are supposed to release a new and improved version this fall but haven't heard anything yet. Their website still shows it but its not available anymore. It really added depth and volume to our cattle we fed it...

Our new heifer what do you think?

I wasn't planning doing it myself going to have the vet out to look at it and fix it . Pretty sure it's just extra skin. The guy we are getting her from is a really respectable breeder and also a life long friend and he takes very good care of his cattle so if it were more than just extra skin...

Ok here she is . We just bought this April heifer last Saturday . She's out of a Durango son and a Wrangler D19 cow . This is just a pasture pic of her she is currently being brought in in the morning and given feed both morning and night then turned out with momma of an evening. What do you...

Help needed looking for show heifers

Check out Ohio Beef Expo in March . Really a neat deal there. We are from Indiana and came over last year. It really highlights breeders and what they have . Its also a good chance to pick up a heifer calf that has been broke and worked already so some of the hard work is already done. Also a...

    Blower Hose

We had the same trouble with our single blower and talked to the local Sullivan's dealer and he said they had a truck load of bad hoses and replaced it free of charge

    Neck Sweat

We used one of the neoprene sweats from sullivan supply on our hereford heifer and it really helped her a lot. We put it on at night when we turned her out all summer. I was kind of afraid to leave it on her all day during the summer, don't know maybe it wouldn't hurt her but seemed kind of...

    Aluminum fencing

Powder coat the aluminum and it wont rub off. Sullivans has started doing this with the side rails and head gates of their aluminum grooming chutes

HAIR HELP - LEG HAIR JUST WON'T STAND UP

After we rinse and put in conditioner and before we dry we use a rice root brush and work leg hair while its still wet. brushing it forward on the front half and back on the back side just like you would if you were fitting for a show with adhesive. Then when we dry we use the blower to work the...

    Livestock Kids

At our county fair we have the" Battle of The Barns" which consists of several different games between the cattle barn ,swine barn, and sheep barn.  Its ends up being water fight when its all said and done but really helps kids get to know each other .

    Calming agent

We have used Thorazine in the past on a heifer. She wasnt wild or crazy just stubborn and refused to walk no matter what you did. The Thorazine took the edge off and she would walk just fine. But, you need a prescription for it

Our heifer what do you think

Thanks Telos. I have to agree she is really long. All of the calves out of her sire are made that way. The guy we got her from swears he adds an extra ribs length to his calves.

Our heifer what do you think

XBAR I tend to agree with you from time to time. One day I look at her and think she has plenty of belly the next I think she needs more. Maybe its just me, I don't know . At the show this picture was taken she was the deepest heifer in her class . What would you suggest to add more depth ? We...

Our heifer what do you think

This was at the Indiana preview show . Well we will find out about crackerjack in January , we have bred a lot to him and from people we have talked to he should work for us. You're right about feeding them though. Her flank is looking really good and she is soggy . Her biggest flaw is her front...

Our heifer what do you think

This is my sons March 2012 heifer. We are pretty happy with how she is coming along. What do you guys think of her? She is out of a Durango son and is 2 months bred to Crackerjack.

    Need to add belly

Umbargers Payload will add depth. But, it was designed for heifers so your rate of gain may be affected so if you need to put a lot of weight on before your show he may not get there. We feed a lot of wet beet pulp and Purina Depth Charge. Again though the Depth Charge will result in less feed...

    County Fair Judges

I've come to realize that no matter where you go or what the show is someone that you are going to show against will know the judge. Most judges are professional enough to judge the cattle not the owners, however there are always exceptions . The show we were at yesterday the judge was the...
