    ice ice baby!!! (jpj calf)

Nice calf and precious pic of daughter with calf, first thing my wife and I thought was never at our place would you get that picture.  Most our cows all have a shot of Ext and sometimes two shots we don't worry about Black Buzzards or petting calves while they nurse.

sexed semen in the dairy barns

Unfortunately for the us they have embraced tit, talked to ABS and Genex in Denver and they are not sorting beef for the dairy is so back ordered.  I used quite a bit of sexed semen this fall and got along great and now they don't have any inventory on the bulls I used or want to use this spring...

    Liveauction.tv

I understand part of the problem kinda like the people that come to a sale to eat and watch only and then sit in the in all the seats where the bidders can't get in.  I have bought over the phone while watching and bid for people watching a sale I am at.  I know one person that has had them...

    Liveauction.tv

I hear both sides but having bought off of DV Auction late night when someone I know who's cattle have been put last for a good buy for the order buyers you pay to play just not in advance.   Sometimes being anonymous to others at the auction is a good thing but I have been approved and they do...

    Shots for newborns

I give a MutiMin and a First Defense bolus when we weigh and tag.  The caves get a Viaion 7 sommus when the cows get their pre-breeding shots.

    Worried Sick

I am worried that Starlet won't bring anything at the Ky Fall Genetics sale in December.  We have to make choices and are going to the Chi and Maine Jr. Nationals and not the Simmental so she is for sale.  She is super easy.  She has more rib than the pic for it was late and she wouldn't drink...

I know this is Steer Planet, but ...

Goats are the funniest creatures.  We have two pet goats  Buffy and Jody, Jody was cut as a wee one and is the most comical of the two Buffy is a female.  Buffy is going to a friend that raises Boers for a love connection so that my kid has the babies to play with bext summer.  We live in 5...

    HELP!!! Pneumonia

I have been vaccinating the cows about a month before calving with Bovishield and Multimin.  They also got a Bovishield at preg check and pre-breeding.  It is easier to get on a live program now that as we read the label the cows only need one shot in the last twelve months rather than 2 rounds...

    Feeber lambs - DL

I will get a picture tomorrow of our goat set up if nothing breaks down in the hay fields, best thing going.  This year one was a bottle baby  he rides in the gator,  it's a hoot.  A feeder goat can cleanup 100 square feet a day of thick brush .  CDT and worming regularly is all we do to them...

    Time for Flies

The new stuff from Bayer that is a fly bait like Golden Marlin is great.  I sprinkle it in the barn ally and feed room and the flies are dead immediately an inch thick.  It is expensive but I have never seen anything work so well.  Spraying the field cattle with permectin is useless anymore...

Farmers how do you afford to farm?

I burn 150 gals a week cutting, tedding, raking, baling, and putting hay in the hut another week at home and then I start custom work.  This year I am charging $16 per 4x5 to get your hay done.  Hay around here is being priced at $40 and trading at $35 and I fertilized in Feburary with the rain...

I like Golden Flo and add barley to my show feed.  I used Tasco last year and will pay the extra 200 a ton again this year to put in my minerial.

    Calf Pics

The white hfr is by a Dream On son from ABS.  I wanted a smokey, but I am happy with her.  I will post a pic of the dam. Mud Pie comes from the fact that I found her in a mudhole next to a round bale, it was really foggy and thought mom was eating hay at last night check.  She had a temperature...

    which topdress should i use?

I have had great results with Calf Manna, but last year started using Sure Champ pellets from Vitaferm.  Goldenflo is a must with either product and 1 oz per 6 lbs feed raises the fat 1 % in the ration, I usually feed 1/2 lb Sure Champ and 2 ozs Goldenflo with ration morning and night.

    Creep feeding show calves

I feed a pellet with decox and start when the first calf is about a week old.  The best thing I did is build 24 x 36 calf barns with one side closed where the weather comes from,  inside it I use panels with the back wall being one side and a 12 ft creep panel and pass through other one with two...
