    cork screw hoof

I haven't had the vet look at it but I did have the cow farrier out last Friday.  She has the "typical" twisted hoof and the wrapping around of the hoof under neath into the sole area.  I haven't read any information that says this condition occurs on the front - it only refers to the back. ...

    cork screw hoof

My daughter's cow, age 4, has recently developed the condition of cork screw hoof -  on the front -  which seems to be unusual from the information which I have read.  Info says it mostly affects the rear hooves. Can steer planet folks give me information and advice on treatment of the condition...

    one crazy coyote

I, too, am very sorry for your loss.  I have had two of my all time favorite cats snatched right out of our front yard in broad open daylight. We've tried shooting the sorry son of a guns but they are such sneaky and elusive animals. I certainly understand how mad you are.  Enjoy a cold one...

    Feeding HSC Power Fuel??????

Daughter used this product on steer this past show season.  Worked great, affordable yet easy to handle (not messy like liquid supplements).  Just one recommendation -  once you start it, don't stop it, because their hair comes out like crazy.  Gator Mom

    ADG and finish?

SKF, I know that we always attribute their on/off eating to climate changes in that  our winter weather is 70-80 degrees one day and 30 degrees the next.  However, perhaps that is just an assumption on our part.  I'd like to hear what calves do in other parts of the country where the weather is...

    ADG and finish?

SKF, Maybe it's more of a Florida thing.  Our Fair not only requires a 2.25 pound per day but also requires .25 on back fat.  Deb

Need help on finishing a steer

I think we also have a similar situation with the ripples and not getting a smooth finish.  Daughter's steer is weighing 1290 and we have 30 days to go.  Is 30 days enough time to get the desired smooth finish? I read the posts about barley.  Can someone give additional info on feeding the...

    Rocky Balboa?

We have used Rocky on our 6 heifers. All were small and very easing calving except one bull calf which required an easy pull.  The calves have been tremendous in terms of bone structure and hair.  50% bull and 50% heifer calves. We have used him again this year on some of the second timers...

    Very disgusting day yesterday

Just thought I'd add a comment to the vet shortage.  Some universities have created special  slots for students interested in large animal vet medicine.  For those interested, they should do a complete search of the land grant colleges.  I'll bet they also come w/ scholarship monies as well.  GM

    Trailer Questions

I thought I would share our purchase w/ you.  A couple of years ago, we decided to do the local shows + one or two several hours away.  So we bought a stock side horse trailer w/ the dressing/tack room.  It's perfect to store luggage, feed, etc. to keep dry as, the pickup doesn't have enough...

Washington DC trip Site seeing hints n/c

I've been to DC on several occasions strictly as a tourist w/ school groups, etc.  Here are some of what I think are the best:  Arlington The monuments - go during the day but don't miss an opportunity to see them all at night.  The lighting at night is phenomenal.  The War Memorials all leave...

Is this a bad lice year or what?!

I too seem to be having a problem.  Since we haven't experienced this issue before, I could use a little info.  We poured Cydectin two weeks ago with almost no results, of course on our best heifer.  How soon is too soon to treat with another product?  I am under the assumption that Cydectin...
