    pha/th test samples

You should be fine, just keep them in the fridge and if you think about it take a cooler with an ice pack in it with you when you collect them, depending on the weather.  I'd stick an ice pack in when you ship them, it's been upper 80's here and supposed to be over 90.  I think Dr. B uses the...

    pha/th test samples

So many defects and only one of me  (lol)  I'm gearing up to start epilepsy in Herefords next.  We've got quite a few defects on the list, monkey mouth being one of them white heifer disease, sp, and a few others too.  The problem lies in the search for samples and manpower.  I've got some...

    pha/th test samples

Okay...blood storage -  the important thing is that the blood not freeze or get too hot.  The DNA in blood comes from the white blood cells, when blood freezes or gets really hot it lyses these cells which means no DNA.  In theory, as long as you keep the blood in the fridge it SHOULD be fine (I...

    Barrel Racers colt

Okay hopefully these will work and not be too big.  He's still down a little bit on his back legs, but we've got some special little shoes for him (hubby is a farrier), so he should be fine.  I rebred my mare and find out Tuesday if it took so I've got my fingers crossed.

    Barrel Racers colt

He's doing great!  Thanks for asking!  I sent some new pictures out by e-mail, not sure if Red still has them.  I  can try and post some more, but I'm sure she'll have to fix them for me because they are always way too big for some reason  (lol)  He's decided that it's not so much fun to follow...

    PHA pedigree gurus......

I know we haven't discussed the search in awhile but......what would you say if I told you  NBB DALTON 50B reg #15 was a carrier?  If there is a connection between Draft Pick/Stinger/Payback I sure can't find it.  Just an FYI I finally got a good result for Inox and he is clean.  Happy hunting...

    Kentucky Derby

Turbo is doing just great, sent you some more pictures (I'm worse than a new mom!).  I had to take them to vet to start this whole breeding process all over again, we have a good follicle developing so I had to leave them there.  Now let's just hope that she holds on to it until the semen gets...

    Kentucky Derby

Viagen is the company that cloned Scamper, for I think $150,000.  I had read that he may be broke to ride but will not run, just used for breeding (personally wouldn't breed to him but that is just my opinion).  I think that AQHA's rules are still that the clones as well as resulting foals...

    Good Reading?!

Deep- Thanks so much!!!  I'll send you a private message with my address.  That's so nice of you!  They made a movie from First to Die it was on Lifetime, pretty good but as usual the book was much better.  SJ-I'll have to check out Mutation, got the other books when the library has their book...

    Good Reading?!

Not that I have time to read much, but.... I'm really into all of your picks sj!  I've been on a James Patterson kick lately, guess I better get that new one Cross that deep mentioned.  I have just started a book by Kathy Reichs called Cross Bones, she's the person that the Fox show Bones is...

    Barrel Racer's baby colt..

Thanks everybody I just can't believe he's finally here!  Yes that's Streaker, he's such a nice looking horse.  He was AAA SI98 on the track and then they are able to rope off of him now.  I'm hoping I get a race colt and then able to transition into barrels once the race career is over.  So...

    Barrel Racer's baby colt..

Thanks guys! Dad was a bay roan.  I know sounds wierd but he's neat looking guy.  If you interested his website is www.fultonranch.com and he's under a Streak of Fling.  Mom is black.  Genes I like Streakin under the Moon, I'll have to add that one to the list!!

    Barrel Racer's baby colt..

Thanks Red! I'm dumb when it comes to attaching pictures to anything!  They look great!  He was about 6 hours old in those pictures.  I'm going to get more when I go visit him on Wednesday.  I sure wish I knew what color he was going to be.

    Barrel Racer's baby colt..

After 376 days my foal is finally here... He came at 4:30 a.m. on April 15th, not sure on the color he looks bay but has zebra striped legs, definately a stud colt.  Mom and baby are both well, mom is very protective and won't let anyone near the baby just yet. I have three names up in the air...

We make up an interesting group of cattle people from all over.

Thanks!!!  After 376 days of waiting on the little guy he's finally here.  I went over to the farm I have her boarded at to foal out and saw him this morning, he's just the cutest little guy (can't you tell this is my first  (lol)).  I'll post more details tomorrow, but it is a stud colt and mom...

Oh my gosh Red, those smiley's are so funny!! I'll play too.  Born and raised in central Illinois.  Have my M.S. in genetics working with the one of the best equine talents Dr. B  (lol)  As far as cattle and farming go, I grew up in the country have had horses ever since I can remember, but...

    PHA Question

Well our theory on the hernia is that the gene is also responsible for pelvic fusion as well as the hind limbs, so it also affects the fusion of the pelvis bones (basically they don't), so like DL says the muscles just can't hold it all in (I'm not up on my anatomy to know what all is there). ...

    PHA Question

I can say that the human tibial hemimelia is not caused by the same gene as the bovine version (that would have been waaaay too easy right?).  Actually I think we are finding that the tibial defect varies a lot from calf to calf and we've had some that had normal tibias.  I think the the main...

I wouldn't say I've gone to that extreme..... yet  (lol)  There's nothing worse than a woman and her preganant mare (I actually have ultrasound pictures hanging right by my computer)!  I actually have her boarded in Indiana so the foal can be eligible for special Indiana born races.  It's...

Great Job DL!!!  I have yet to see Dr. B's equine skills but I hear they are stellar  (lol) Seems like waiting on this foal has been a lot more than 10,000 hours  (lol)  Original due date was March 14.  The vet was out a week ago today (which she was at 365 days then), he said she had another...
