What kind of bedding materials are provided at the American Royal?  Is it like Tulsa and we need to bring finishing pellets or like Louiville where provided bedding is adequate?

Does anyone know what the market steer class breaks were last year?  Is there an archive online where you can look at the past years?

    American Royal

We are going to the American Royal for the first time.  Does anyone know where I can find a map of the complex that has the stall and tie out areas marked?  I like to be familiar with the layout before we get there.

    Cooking in the Stall

With our State Fair coming up in a couple of months I am trying to come up with some ideas for lunches that can be cooked in the stall area. We like to do lunch for our semi large group and then go out to eat for supper.  In the past we have done Walking Tacos and Chili.  The chili is good...

    Questions about Shorthorn Jr. Nationals

We are headed to Louisville next week.  Does anyone know what lot the trailer parking is?  Also paperwork says no cookers.  We usally take a crockpot to State Fair and eat out of that during the day and dinner out at night.  Does that mean no crockpot?  Is beer and other beverages allowed on...

    You might be a farmer

A friend posted this on Facebook and I had to share.  Too many of these apply to our family, including borrowing gravel from the county road. lol YOU MAY BE A FARMER IF: Your dog rides in the truck more than your wife You have driven off the road while examining your neighbor's crops You have...

    Hauling horses on corrugated floor

About to buy a Wilson trailer with corrugated floor.  I was told not to haul horses in it, but to buy one with a flat floor.  The flat floor adds another $1000.00.  Is this true?

    Have to Brag (sorry)

Our County Fair show was last night and I have to brag.  My daughter had the Grand Market Steer, won Sr. Showmanship and had the 1st place commercial heifer and was 3rd place overall heifer.  We are very proud!!  She is not a morning person, so it's nice to be rewarded for her "sacrificed" sleep...

What if you think you can do better?

We are taking two nice steers to Tulsa.  It's a terminal show.  How do you pull one out of the sale if you think he didn't place well enough and go on to Kansas City with him?  Both steers are nominated for Tulsa and KC.

    Dr. Scholl's Freeze Away

Has anyone tried the Freeze Away on show cattle with warts?  Our heifer has quite a few small ones popping up.  I gave he vaccine this morning, but our county fair is in 4 weeks.  She's a black Monopoly heifer and I'm worried it might cause white spots like when you freeze brand.

Where to stay during the American Royal?

I am booking rooms for Tulsa and Kansas City.  We've been to Tulsa Fair, but this will be our first time at KC.  What are some nearby, decently priced hotels?

    Barn Camera

Here's the setup I need.  I want to be able to check the cool room from my computer or smartphone.  My showbarn is less than 400 ft from our house with clear line of sight.  I want to put a camera in my coolroom with infared night vision.  At this time our wifi does not reach the barn but I am...

    American Ingenuity

We had to pull a calf from this first calf heifer.  This was almost two weeks ago.  The calf was born dead and the cow has yet to stand up.  she isn't paralyzed but is really weak in her rear end.  Do we keep trying with her or is this a futile effort?  She is eating and drinking good.  She will...

    Our Heatwave

I just had to brag a little on my 16 year old daughter.  Yesterday was our county spring show and she had the Grand Prospect, Res. Grand Prospect and won Sr. Showmanship.  Being a typical teenage girl getting up to go to the barns in the morning isn't always fun, but that sure made it easier. ...

    Calf can't stand

We had to pull a calf last night and it's been almost 24 hours and the calf still hasn't stood up.  His is upright and alert but can't seem to get his legs under him.  He's a big calf and it was a hard pull.  We've had him draped over a hay bale periodically today.  Had to use a tube and put a...

    Cattle App for Ipad

I am looking for a record keeping program for an ipad that  will also work with my laptop.  I would like to be able to take the Ipad to the pasture with me and make notes and record updates and then sync info with my laptop.  Is there anything like this out there?  I am really trying to justify...

    We changed trains

This is my 15 year old daughters 2nd year to show.  Up until last year she had done competition dance (think DanceMoms).  We were both ready for a break and since we farm for a living she thought showing cattle would be fun, plus it made her dad happy.  While I sorta miss the dance I LOVE the...
