    Cooler or no cooler?

We live in central Indiana . We wash once a week and rinse the other 6 days and we have hair just like the calves in coolers do. We raise herefords and the key is to keep them clean keep them under fans and work the hair . Every day for several hours a day. We had 5 head this summer and spend...

    Beet pulp, benifets from wetting

We feed it wet they seem to eat it better . Only time we feed it dry is if their stools get really loose it will help tighten them up . As far as how much we feed equal parts beet pulp to feed . Right now 2 scoops of feed 2 scoops beet pulp . If we are trying to hold one we will decrease feed...

    Umbarger feeds

We've fed Umbargers for years and love it. Also helps that it's only 15 minutes from home so the feed is always fresh sometimes still warm when we pick it up. Personally we like Lite 'em Up . Very happy with the results from this feed . its the same base feed as payload but higher fat and energy...

    Trouble getting cows to stick!!

Had a similar problem last year . 20 straws of semen only 2 cows bred and 3 embryos from 2 flushes . Had our embryologist check a straw of the semen and found there was low sperm count and very low mobility. After talking to several others who used the same bull found out they had the same...

    Clipping Herefords...

We slick our Herefords in early March all the way down to the knees but leave the belly hair just kind of even it up a little. After that we wash once a week and rinse the other 6 days. After rinsing we spray on double dip mixed with vinegar and olive oil hair conditioner . Then brush it in and...

After rinsing them spray them with double dip vinegar mix (50-50) then spray them with olive oil hair spray ( you can get that at Walmart in the natural...

    What to breed to ?

We just had a Catapult heifer calf last week . Birth weight of 65 lbs out of a first calf heifer. That is the first Catapult we have had so waiting on a few more before we decide whether we were really smart or just got a low birth weight calf. My question is will Catapult add power to his...

    What to breed to ?

We have a Cracker Jack heifer out of a double bred Durango cow that we raised . Really nice heifer placed 5 out of 10 at NAILE . Also did well at HBC. Only thing either judge has said was they'd like to "power her up" . So what bull would you guys suggest ? Was thinking about using Purple Milsap...

Please help with Heifer Feed Ration

Personally, for $14 a bag I can buy Umbargers Lite em up or Payload . Which are both excellent feeds for show heifers and they are a complete feed . Other than maybe adding beet pulp . Just my opinion .
