    Chronic scours

We had a calf that was a week old that was anemic and scouring at a week off age, thought we'd lose her foresure. Vet suspected crypto drenched her with safegaurd and 5cc new cells a day and 3cc excenel. Newcells are basically a b12 shot used for run down cattle and race horses. Excenel is very...

    Birth Weight Tape Accuracy

Tapes are better than nothing, but can't replace a scale. I used one a little but found it was easily 7 or 8 pounds light on bigger long bodied calves, only use it on commercial calves now. Its handy for a big outfit calving on grass, and packing a tape or a scale on a horse. I know one guy who...

    Draxxin, Micotil, Nuflor

Used a little nuflor, been using a bit of resflor,(nuflor/banamine) it works great and quick. The downfall with these drugs according to our vet is they kill the good stomach bacteria as well as dehydrate the animal. He recomends giving electrolites to baby calves if you have to use these drugs...

    Flush question

We flushed 3 different cows last spring on farm, we only did them once mind you . They were given estrumate coming out of the chute i believe they cycled about 4 or 5 days later and all 3 rebreed and calved within a week of the last et calf. I would just breed her on the 1st cycle, but ask your...

    cows dead

Here's a few options used in Canada for grazing alfalfa. There's the rumensin bolus, probably the most reliable but there designed more for yearlings but do work in cows. Everything else relies on the cow consuming or drinking it. A product called alfasure, mixes in the water works great the...

Looking for a new trailer, does anyone have a wilson with a rolling divider?

Looking at buying a 7.5' by 24 or 26 trailer. Leaning to a eby or wilson, does anyone have any experience with the rolling divider on a wilson. Talked to a few people with eby's and they all like theres. Have only seen one on a new wilson, i'm not sure it will stand up like the eby will

    Commercial Shorthorns

He just bought 3 or 4  horned hereford bulls in Calgary. Do you know where they fit into his breeding plans Jamie?  The hereford/ shortie cross is a hard cow to beat. Is he looking for anymore Herefords? I might know where he could find a few.

Charolais and Herford Bull Questions For a Friend of Mine

I'd check the crossfire bull for the dilutor gene if you plan to use him on black cattle unless you don't care if you get a smokey. Not saying he carries it but there was a bull called Titan 7777 that was a dilutor carrier years ago and his sire titan 23d is in crossfire pedigree. Here's a...

Best put down a Judge has used

Nice, you're running down everyone for slammin judges. But you can tell this hereford  deserved to be last cause herefords can't compete with the angus. Maybe you should stick to the sheep buddy.

    Halter Breaking question

So, my question is, what is that "Breaking Halter" I have seen; it had a metal loop for the nose with a ring on th top, and a chain for around the ears. Does something like that really work? He has a little mean/stubborn streak in him. Thanks in advance for any suggestions  ;D I won't even...

    MELATONIN IMPLANTS NATURAL???

I'm pretty new here so anyway i clicked on the add for want hair?? And i couldn't believe they are promoting implants as a natural way to grow hair. The natural way to grow hair is breeding and maybe sending them up to me in Canada in this deepfreeze we've been living in this winter. I don't...

EPD's the good, the bad, and the ugly.

EPD'S  are fine as a selection aid, but accuracy is a problem lots of the time. I've used higher epd bulls by AI and found that most of the time my closer to average natural herdsires produce just as well in our environment. And then there's the game of grouping cattle in differnet groups to...

heifer with blood in her udder

I've seen it before, asked my vet he basically just said it was colostrum said it would be very good for the calf if he sucked it. If you ever steal colostrum from cows sometimes you'll notice a pinker color to some i think its just a higher blood level. aka colostrum which a baby calf needs for...
