We are planning a prospect show and would like to know what's the average price for a judge for a one day show? What questions do you ask a potential judge? Do most of you use a local judge or find someone from another state? Any suggestions??? Thank you!!!!

Jackpot judges in our part of the country generally get 200-300 per day for jackpots and 400-500 for a county fair.  They also get lunch and mileage on top of that.

My advice is to do your homework on the person you are hiring.  Most importantly, they must be good with kids and have a "forward" attitude.

Secondly, make sure they have not sold or partnered on livestock inn your area.  (Also, make sure they were not a frat brother or judging teamate of some of the kid's dads!  That has happened to us before!!!)

Good luck!

If your in Iowa, here are two really good judges.  Lindsey Core and her fiance Stephen Linnebur.  We had Lindsey do the NW MO state fair and she judges hogs and cattle.  Did a wonderful job sorting the cattle, and was even better with the kids.  Showmanship, she was awesome.  She had to be tired after over 8 hours of judging but took the time with each kid and showed them what she thought they could improve on.  They were both on a judging team in Iowa and Lindsey won a big big judging contest either Ft. Worth or Houston.  (I'm getting old and cann't remember which)

Good luck!
