Dear AMAA & AJMAA members,
In preparation for two new and exciting programs please take a few minutes and read the enclosed
materials.
As explained in the March/April issue of the Voice magazine, the Maine-Anjou Performance Program
(MAPP) will be fully under way beginning January 1, 2009. Prior to that date several steps need to be
completed so that the program can run as effectively as possible.
<For those who plan to participate you will need to clip out and return the enclosed form.
< Once we receive the clipping, the AMAA will send out herd inventories to MAPP participants.
Each breeder will update their lists and return to the AMAA by September 1, 2008.
REMEMBER, EPD’S WILL ONLY BE PROVIDED TO THOSE THAT PARTICIPATE IN
MAPP.

(MAPP)
In our recent travels MAPP has been embraced very enthusiastically by those we have discussed it with.
The opportunity for the breed to gain a higher predictability of genetic value is a very positive and
welcome sight. Leading up to the January 1, 2009 program inception date some preliminary exchange of
information will be requested of the AMAA membership. Your timely and accurate response to each
mailing will help the process tremendously.
A MAPP participant will:
< receive epd’s on registered progeny
< if not registered but data reported, may request a performance pedigree @ $10 per head
< if not registered but reported, data will be a part of AMAA performance program but not available
to breeder
A non MAPP participant will:
< not receive epd’s on registered progeny

Before you make the decision to be a non-participant please realize the possible long term draw backs,
i.e.:
< you will lose some potential buyers to programs that offer MAPP data as a part of the pedigree.
This will happen!
< future rules of expo and national sales that will require MAPP data in order to sell
< ability to qualify for bull test sales
< critical loss of time regarding accuracy of data for your herd
Maine-Anjou Performance Program regulations:
1. All registered Maine-Anjou and MaineTainer females are included in the MAPP program.
Registered females of another breed or commercial females will not be charged the active
female fee.
2. A member’s registered active female herd can only be a part of either MAPP or Breeder’s
Choice, not both.
3. A member’s herd must be enrolled in MAPP in order to attain epd’s on progeny. (If all AMAA
performance criteria is met)
4. Enrollment forms will be sent in early summer of each year with a noted date of return.
5. For those members that did enroll in MAPP, inventories will be sent in late summer with a
noted date of return. A penalty of $50 will apply to those inventories returned after posted
deadline.
6. Invoicing and payment of MAPP active females will take place in January of each year.
(Remember that in 2009 the active female fee will be waived)
7. When a herd is enrolled in MAPP, an active female must be enrolled in order to transfer.
8. Stated registration and transfer fees will apply to progeny of MAPP females.
9. Non-registered progeny data will be a part of the system but not available to breeder unless the
breeder requests a performance pedigree at a cost of $10 per animal.
10. A reactivation fee of $50 per animal applies only when cattle are declared on the MAPP
inventory, dropped and then reactivated.
11. Multiple-owned females must be on each individual member’s inventory in order to register
progeny.
12. One of the following must be received at the AMAA office for each female inventory:
a. A calf record, inclusive of AMAA performance record requirements.
b. A disposal code on the cow.
c. A calving code for non-live calves.
13. When a female is purchased from a herd participating in the Breeder’s Choice program by a
herd participating in MAPP, the MAPP member must pay the current year annual active fee
($5) in order to activate the female on inventory list.
Without a doubt there will be situations that are unforeseen and will need to be handled on a one-toone
basis. In immediate situations the Executive Vice-President will be called to make the decision.
The American Maine-Anjou Board of Directors recognizes that change does not always come easily
but truly believes that MAPP offers breed stability along with long-term growth and a wider arena for
Maine-Anjou genetic acceptance.
