I've been taking care of a coming yearling bull since November for a nearby farm. They are paying for feed, vaccinations, semen test, etc. I'm taking the bull to a sale in March for the people and they are paying transport, hotels, labor, etc. But I was just wondering: Do you charge commission on the animal since it is being sold?? This is the first animal I've boarded so I was just wondering how other people charge.

I am going to say that since you are taking the bull to a sale and they are paying all expenses plus paying you labor, then you probably wont get a commisiion because the commision would most likely go to whoever is putting the sale on. On the other hand if you were doing the same, but trying to find buyers private treaty for the owners then yes you would probably get some type of commision. In that situation you are doing the work to promote the bull and try to find buyers.  In this situation whoever is putting the sale on is putting in the legwork to promote the sale, the cattle in it, and find the buyers to be there so they get the commision.

Whenever we take cattle to a sale for someone we get paid day money, expenses, and for clipping but no commission. From time to time if they have a good sale they sometimes give us a bonus. I wouldn't ask for or expect a commission but hopefully they will appreciate your work and give you a little extra. (thumbsup)

I was thinking the same thing as both of you, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't under charging. Thank you very much for the info!
