Heat Wave has to go he's had so many champions plus if they cloned him you have to think of the best in the club calf world.

I guess back when we started this thread the idea was a bull that had had a mojor impact on a breed - despite my personal dislike of the use of TH and PHA carriers I have to agree that both Draft Pick and Improver had a major impact on the breed (MA and Shorthorn) - now as much as some seem to like Heat Wave and his clones I (and I admit I see his impact on the show ring, but anybody with money can clone a bovine so that doesn't say anything to me about his merit) but he is a cross bred bull, Paddy is a crossbred bull - I just don't see it....

Going back to the roaring twenties, there was a bull they named Emulous. Yes, just Emulous. The original sire of this line of Angus. Touchstone Angus gives us a bit of history on their web site plus other interesting tidbits. http://www.touchstoneangus.com/

Hi and thanks for the link.  I am fast becoming an Aberdeen Angus history junkie.  Quick question - Emulous or Emulus - two different bulls I think

Then again, I could be wrong, 'cos I usually am :)

Cheers all - Jack

PS:  If I was voting for a bull - it would be Broken Arrow Kaptain Midnight of Erica 843 fame because I am biased and I do his web page  ;)

I'll do this- if anyone wants to put together a brief history of their bull for the HOF then we'll post it.
I think all bulls are good choices. Don't think we can limit it to defect free bulls onlt because some of the carriers were breed changing! The Hall of Fame started out as bulls that changed their breed for the good or bad I guess. Ones that stand-out as all time proven bulls.
DL- any progress on Black Gold?

Can't find a picture to save my life but I do have a poster advertising his semen - this may be as close as we get!

I guess my preference is to highlight bulls that changed the breed - not crippled bulls who threw big calves, not cow potential, but  every once in a while there was a great one for the show ring!

Do visit this website.  I am acquainted with the James family.  Great people, great cattle.

Question for all of you Angus historians....Is Emulous the main Angus bull for carrying the red color gene?

OK - I know I am changing the subject (or at least the breed) but my vote for the Maine bull in the Hall of Fame is AA Black Gold 500 - I know he is a dark horse (so to speak) but I think he has had a major and good influence and when the time comes I will tell you why!

Dl. Did you ever say why on black gold?  Wasn't he one of the first nazi walkers.
