What's the best club calf blood that you can use to start a commercial herd with?

Not sure what you're trying to get at with posts like this, but club calves don't make very good commercial cattle 99% of the time.  Start with either a purebred for F1 base of cows, use a purebred bull of a different type.  Ex.- Angus or Sim/Angus cows with a Simmental or Charolais bull.  Or- Charolais influenced cows with an Angus bull.  Even stuff like Angus cows and a Hereford bull can work great.  But taking mongrelized cattle that have been bred exclusively for traits that DO NOT work in a commercial setting and then trying to force them into that setting is a recipe for disaster.  I manage a Hereford farm, and I can even tell you that there is a vast difference between the cattle we breed to show and the cattle we breed to sell to the commercial cattleman. And that's in a breed that pretty much built the commercial market in the U.S.

I have to disagree , it's all in your selection  whether it be ANGUS,HEREFORD, CHAROLAIS ,SIMMENTAL CHIANINA OR MAINE ,some of the basic breed's...In this group  in last 40 years the two British breeds have spiced their bloodline up  and lost dependability ...Back then ANGUS could make any breed better especially if you wanted great females  ...The Herefords I think have cured some problems ,bag's ,eye's but not with out some other help .
I was at a show the other day that a SIMMENTAL looking bull tied in the HEREFORDS  all three day's ...What kind of commercial cow you want also makes
a difference  and no matter what breed you decide you need to pick the type that will work the best for you and there is a lot of difference right in one breed ...
I really don't know why you asked cause it sure sound's like  you weren't going to use a clubby bull any way ...
