They were just unloaded and are both out of a Proud Jazz son and commercial cows. The hiefer is a June so was 13 months and change in the picture-the steer may not be a world beeter-but hes thick.Theres calves in them hills. O0

That blue one is plenty straight. And if she's a heifer, not very feminine.

This is what I was thinking, but without seeing her on the move I was hesitant to comment. Could just be the way the picture was taken too. She is pretty thick though, market heifer or breeding?

On the other hand the steer looks quite remarkable, but as above I haven't seen him walk. If he is sound that is one hell of a steer from what I can see. Thick and it's not just hair making him look that way.

The hiefer is alot sounder looking in person than in the picture-and shes a breeding hiefer. They werent 5 minutes off the trailer and werent settled in when I came by.The steer is a beast-but has a pretty bold front to go with the huge butt etc-still though-these arent meant to be winners at Ak Sar Ben-I just thought for a little 4h deal, that they were pretty stout. And had decent performance-feed or not. And thier Proud Jazz sire went to a well known herd-in terms of Pa-West Va- Md standards. Thanks for the comments O0

Figured that was the case. They are definitely something to be proud of and out of a bull that sounds like is pretty dang good.

Nice pair.  In a lot of counties those would be in the purple. Sometimes we forget that a lot of these counties are not as competitive as others. I spent a year in Northern North Carolina and went to some sale barns in West Virginia and I do not remember very many great ones, but I have also set through a lot of sales in Oklahoma sale barns and seen lots of cattle that lacked a lot of quality.

I had a mark spotting at the steer show. He and I watched the heavy weight champ selection. Judge Chris Mullinix gave our steer show some huge compliments. Any youngster wanting to learn how to give reasons should set in on a show he judges. Second to none in that field IMO!! <rock>

The prospect show was about like usual , not huge #'s but some good ones at the top. Fellow sp user "sizzler" had champion open prospect with a real complete, stout, and smooth made unstoppable steer. My inlaws had champion Jr prospect steer with a red bojo steer. I'll post pic. The fat steer show was better than ever. A monopoly out of no worries dam won it. He was prob the best fat that was ever in that ring. A super showy blue steer was reserve. I believe he was a hw.

Sizzler I was there and saw those calves-and they were very good;there were a couple real nice homebred RW hiefer calves (April 2014s) too. The top fat steer would go ANYWHERE-JMO-the next 2 best steers were the Champ and reserve middles-GARGANS RED CALF WON IT:and he would be good enough to go anywhere :if the right person saw him-he would sell to someone wanting 1 for Louisville or Denver HE WAS THAT GOOD,AND HAD PLENTY OF GAS YET-just not a hole in him..But the second place Blue Roan(Cheyanne Pitsenbarger) FLAT knocked everyone out when he came in the ring too:and I can say pretty much the same thing-toughest 2 steers ive seen in a ring this side of OHIO.-All things being equal these were the best 2 individuals in the show-and Mullinax commented that the top 4 steers would have given em all they want at Illinois etc.-Hats off to: Gargan, the Pitsenbargers-and Sizzler-as well as everybody else. Thanks Mark. I was real proud of the red mab calf that I sold to the Hanson family standing out there in the heavyweight championship drive when the judge was complimenting them. Would like to have seen him with a full hair coat but it is what it is. Hats off to the other exhibitors too! Here's a cell pic I found on my phone of the mab when I took him to his new home.

Thanks mark. We were pretty excited. We never thought we would be able to win our state open prospect show back to back years, luckily the stars aligned
