I think it is good to have both a website and a FB page. I guess it depends somewhat on what you expect to do with either one. If you plan on using it for general promotion of your breeding program, you may be able to get by with only a FB page. If you are more interested in marketing, then I really think you need to get the website. Websites do not have to be expensive. There are lots and lots of people who have the abilities to set up a very good website and we see many of them on SP, that have been set up by the the person themselves.
In my case, I really had no idea how important our website would be, and it is without any doubt the most important promotion we do. We produce a pile of embryos and approximately 80-90 % of them sell to people I have never met or spoken to, and who have never seen the donors and sires. I was actually working on making shipping arrangements last night for embryos we have sold in the past few days, and we have sold 35 to the US, 16 to Scotland, 20 to England, and 18 to Canada and I have not spoken with a single one of these buyers. These sales have all been done after our online embryo sale. It has all been done with emails and our website. We have also sold semen to Australia in the past week and this sale was done the same way. It is really quite amazing how today's technology has made the world our marketplace. The payments for the sales to Scotland, England and Australia have all been deposited in my farm account, within 4 hours of it being wired from their banks, which I find is simply amazing!
As you can probably tell, I am a big fan of having a web site, but I also think that a FB page can also be a good way to keep in contact with prospective customers. Any positive contact you can have with people in your business is a very good thing. Marketing is as important, if not more important, than production .
