Feed rations

My husband and I are just getting started on moving our cattle to our own place. If judgement serves me right, we should have separate grain rations for calves and cows, due to the purposes needing to be different. Anyone have any suggestions on a home made ration for calves that are getting ready to be weaned and then after they're weaned? Anyone changing their rations from spring to when the months are hot for a "cooler" ration by lessening corn and adding oats? All answers appreciated. We have availability for bagged feed from Purina and Kalmbachs easily, but looks like bulk is cheaper at this point . Thank you!
