thought I'd put a shout out to greenvalley (GVC)

they have been stacking pedigrees for quite a while, and along with nagel's, are my favorite purebred maine breeder.

his lead cows have nage wide track 94J in them, a breed leader for marbling.

I think he was a bull that was sold as the winner of a purebred show a while back and the people who showed bulls against each other, got to buy shares in the winner.  there isn't much semen on him.  the marbling stat is probably wrong as the association has been going through all their epd's and reviewing them.  they probably just haven't caught up with him yet. his accuracy is low, so it's probably wrong.  his BW is heavy, so probably an issue to use directly.

Very sad to see what I considered a trail blazer in the Maine Anjou breed get out. He raised real world cattle that had plenty of eye appeal. I had the privilege of talking to Dennis this past May while looking at his donor cows. He was a little disappointed with the way the pen of 3 bull show went in Denver and he and I agreed that the breed is getting to "clubby." I will continue to use his bulls and wish him the best of luck with his Angus cattle. Sale day will present many opportunities for other breeders. Awesome set of cattle

I guess I just really don't see why Irish whiskey type cattle are popular if you can't sell them to commercial guys. They are not remotely spread cattle, low bw, decent performance with any carcass. Green valley at least provided that, with some decent looking cattle. To me, Irish whiskey is sort of like  red alert, where red alert took all the milk out.. Whiskey seems to have taken all the performance out. I wish people would make some new blacks.

Needing new blacks?  How about the Res National Champion Fullbood Female from Ft. Worth this year due to have a Montego Bay calf this coming spring. 

That said, we love GVC genetics, and we have been huge proponents of Dennis' cattle for years.  Many of our cows and GVC genetics in their pedigree.

The need for more commercially directed cattle has plagues the Maine's for along time. I feel the Maine's where uses in clubby programs to add functionality however the Maine's took on too many clubby traits as breed. It shows the importance of maintaining some of the older genetics be it full blood or the likes of midas. Gvc cattle from what I seen always kept the balance between function and form. Wish them all the best moving forward their influence will be missed amongst the Maine breed.
