Between September and December I want to breed my heifer Sadie, and want to use one of these 2 bulls. If she was yours who would you use and why? I am hoping for a good solid show calf to show next year in cow calf and by itself. She is a pretty large heifer, 13 months and weighs around 940 probably more. Looking to see which bull would bring out the best of her and show that in the calf.

I would opt for Insight because he has more growth and more milk.
If you get a heifer you are building a nice little herd.  When you look at a calf and he or she
isn't growing as fast as the other calves it's pretty frustrating.
Your heifer is really nice.  I haven't seen a lot of Journey calves but I know
he is popular and your heifer Good luck either way.

Limiting it to these two bulls, I would go w/  Style by a long shot.

Looking at your heifer- traits I would look to improve: Soften her up, Level her hip, level her topline, increase internal capacity.

Insight may not decrease internal capacity but he doesn't look like he'd add any either and he certainly won't improve her hip or topline as those are faults of his own.

Heifer is really long hipped and bodied - she is deep enough for me based on the photo.  I do not follow Black Angus but if I was going to use a heifer bull in this breed - it would be Mid Continent's Titan . I wish Titan was red- really like his offspring.

In my opinion, which is based on very few head personally, Insight can work well on really good females.  However, I do not think he fixes anything.  I would lean more toward Style, but have not used him myself.

You might consider a Barstow Cash son such as Barstow Banker.

Another direction would be HF Tiger 5T.

We love the Insight calves. The females are making very good cows with super nice udders and milking ability. Another to consider would be price. Style $95, Insight what $30 or $35?

Not trying to hijack the thread, but does anyone have experience crossing either on simmental cows?

Angus usually improves Simmental.  ;D

I crossed a sim on an Insight. Cow is dang good and bred her to a Pilgrim son. Calf is pretty badass. Big bodied and soggy, she should my kind of cow.

These are insights on PB Simmi cows.

There are some pretty good Style sons on the market too.  I really like the Greene Pokerface bull, he seems pretty complete.  Decent calving ease, growth and at least a positive docility EPD.  He has big bone, big feet, lots of muscle down in to his stifle, and his hip design seems pretty correct too.  The added bonus is his head and neck set are pretty cool.

I am using Insight on some clubby black cows trying to make some steers and good replacement females.  I think he will work better than Style for my purpose.  Actually, you may want to use Brilliance, the sire of Insight, since his calving ease is so much better and you are breeding a heifer.
