I watched a replay last night of the 1971 Oklahoma-Nebraska football game, still regarded as the all time greatest college football game.  During the game, the announcers, I believe Chris Schenkel and Bud Wilkinson, were talking about some minor bowl games coming up that involved non-household name football teams.  I assume they were division II or something.  One of the matchups they talked about featured Boise State versus Chico State.  I thought it was pretty interesting that in less than 40 years, Boise State has gone from playing Chico State in some obscure bowl to top of the line BCS matchups.  I would imagine the $17 million payout for the Fiesta Bowl was a little higher than their take from the game against Chico State.  By the way, I do think Boise State can compete in a one game contest against just about anybody, but they would have a hard time if they had to play Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Nebraska, etc., week after week.  They'd win their share of games, but I don't think they could match up physically against Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, etc. over an entire season and come away without a loss or two.

Agree with you; an occasional win, but just not enough depth.

I assume Chico State is Chico, CA?    I have a friend that buys a few calves from Chico....remember him telling me that they were considered the #1 party school in the USA
