ice free tank

anyone ever hear of floating an inflated tire in a tank to keep the ice out I have an 8 ft one that i fill w/a hose every three days was thinking about trying this

i read it somewhere a few years ago

My dad used to do that, he used a boat tire cause it was smaller.  I don't remember it working real good unless the wind was blowing.
