We live in Colorado about half way between Denver and Colorado Springs. I just can't believe how much rain we've gotten and we actually have tons of green grass not only in the lawn but in the pastures too!!!! Attached a picture that I took yesterday after we washed our daughter's heifer. Got to looking at it and the background. We are growing grass in the pasture in places where it's only had dirt for the 8 years we've lived here.
What part of the country do you live in? Are you having unusually wet or dry weather? Just curious how the rest of the country is doing.

North Carolina. It has gotten bad dry again after a wet spring. We have had a drought for the past 3 and a half years. Last year started feeding in August and quit in April of this year.

I can't remember the last time we had rain. We are in South Texas and are about to hit stage 3 water restrictions...not good. Please send some of your rain this way  :)

My husband got a job offer in Midland-Odessa (sp?) My relatives lived in Crane for a long time. I told him how dry it was there and virtually no pasture land. That pretty much made up our minds about the job!

We're in Indiana. It's been real dry for the past week, but at least they are getting the wheat cut and the hay baled. Pretty green here we had about a week and half of solid rain about three weeks to a month ago and thats kept the pasture green and the corn tall. Corn is a little over 6ft at the tallest here. Knee high by 4th of July has been changed to head high by 4th of July!!!  (lol)

Here in NW Kansas, after having the dries winter in recorded history, we have had a wet late spring and early summer. It has caused havoc with the spring planting and wheat harvest but the pastures look wonderful and the cattle are happy. I wish we could distribute the rainfall more evenly so everyone could have some.

Hopefully it keeps raining! Coming to Colorado to white water raft in two weeks!!   (clapping)

My son went last week and had a blast. The rivers are very full and running fast. Be careful. Unfortunately every year a few people loose their lives doing it.

It's been interesting hearing about everyone. Thanks for contributing. Sorry there is so much drought around. I know it's tough to get through especially with cattle. I'll pray that the little rain gods go your way ;D

My daughter is working in Torrington, WY this summer for the USDA--AMS(perhaps some of you from that area have heard her giving the markets on radio the last few weeks) and they had rain every evening for the first three weeks she was there.  When we were out there the end of May everything was lush and green in western NE, Eastern WY, and western SD.  It looked really nice and their pastures and hay should have gotten a real good start this summer.  Here in Iowa a large portion of the first crop hay was ruined by the extreme rain.  Now, a couple of weeks later,  we could actually use a nice, gentle inch or two.

We've bought a lot of hay from Torrington. I think a lot of people cut and their fields got rained on. There is a lot of cheap cow hay being sold. I'm just hoping with the bummer crop this year it will drive down the cost of hay. It's ridiculous what we have to pay for it out here. Thought it was suppose to be hot these next 4 days but now they are calling for rain showers again this afternoon. It's hit and miss though. Our friends about 2 miles north of us got pounded yesterday and all we got was a few drops.

We live in the same town it is very depressing and very, very dry.  Selling cows left and  right, nothing for them to eat in the pasture and no rain to make any hay.  We have gone through all of our hay this past winter.  Very sad!!  :(

We do have some cows down south on my parents place.  We have irrigation so we can make some hay to survive.  The clubies are kept there haven't had to sell any yet.

I feel for you. We were like that last year. We have some irragated land but that went to produce horse hay to sell so we can pay bills, so we too had to sell a lot of cows. Now this year we have had some hay get rained on and have more cow hay already then we had last year, and the dryland pasture is still green. Good luck is all I can say. Frostie

Pretty dry here, too.  We got pretty decent moisture a couple of months ago, so the grass got an alright start, and there was quite a bit of hay put up (lot's of wheat hay, thanks to the extra dry winter and the late freeze), but everything's drying out and turning brown now.  Never did get the right kind of rains to fill the ponds, and our windmill was a tornado victim this spring, so we're watering all the cows now.  There were some hit and miss showers around this weekend, but for us it was all miss.

Seems like for the past few years it's been feast or famine - either it's real wet or real dry, not much in between.
