I had a steer go lame took him to vet would hold leg up when standing and limping bad. He had an abscess drained it and vet put hoof boot on good side of hoof.  After two weeks he is putting pressure on it but still walks funny not sure if he is still having issues or if it's because of the hoof boot is awkward. any advice.

We had one in 2012 that had an abscess from a stone bruise. We soaked it in Epson Salts just like a horse and then packed the hoof with Icthemol (spelling?) and it healed up and he was completely sound in 3 weeks.

It takes sometime for them to get back to normal movement and flex. We had both a bull and cow have a foot abscess. Both did well after draining and course of antibiotics. Soaked in epson salts and kept in dry pen for a week or so. If you think that he is having some pain still, One check with your vet for an x-ray to make sure they got all the abscess. Two- an anti-inflammatory may be in order but check withdrawl times for meat consumption. Hope that helps.
