Tony -- I was actually going to post a Mushrooms Anyone thread till I saw yours. I am jealous -- just so you know how dry we've been until  just lately -- I have seen ""O N E "" yellow -- that's it -- ONE.

I was so ashamed I left it hopefully seed the next generation -- albeit 5 years from now as they tell me.

Nice to be in  the weter regions, for sure. We have gotten just enough rain to green things up -- but just try digging a fence post by hand -- I dare ya!!!

Went to the long distance neighbors tonight to borrow a tractore three point post digger -- hoked it uo with great anticipation -- only to see it sit at 4 inches and grind away and go no where. When we pulled it out of the hole -- it was STEAMIMG -- yup -- was too hot to touch!

I have had it -- I think we'll just drive steel in the ground and call it good!

Enjoy those shrooms Tony. I know they don't keep well -- so eat away.

We fry them after a good soaking in salt water to kill the little buggies, best in parkay butter -- when they are about 1/2 cooked, spinkle flour over the wet mix and fry some more till crispy -- love em , can you tell I used to live in Missouri?? hehehe

Terry

PS == Used to be a web site called www.morelheaven.com -- haven't tried to go there for a few years, but they used to have GREAT resipes for Morels.
(thumbsup)

How do you cook those? :)))
Mom's recipe:  Buttermilk, Egg, Salt $& Pepper and cook  in a very hot oil!  She also makes a Mushroom soup!   Soup that's very good!  Not sure anyone will ever know that recipe!   Very good though!

It's kind of a celebration for us this time of year!  Cows worked,  Calves branded,  crops going in, Springs here  lets fry up some mushrooms get together as family and friends!  A fun event to teach the kids!  It's a hunt that you can show the boy's without spending hundreds at Cabbellas for equipment!

It been way too dry here, and they're always out about a month ago.  Reading this post I just realized we've had more rain in yesterday and today than in the past 7 months.  6 inches so far and still coming down................so far no severe weather...........well, the wind did get up to 60mph, but that's just a breeze.

Good ole Morels. Wash thoroughly after cuttin in half, roll in flour, then dip in egg wash, then in flour a second time, cook in peanut oil mixed with bacon fat. Always nice to have a gallon or so of Mountain Oysters to cook with them, and some home made CHALK to wash them down with, and homemade Butter Pecan Ice Cream for dessert, yum yum.
