Utilize resources around you. Nutritionists, consulting company, extension offices. There are lots of people out there that are willing to help if you just ask questions. Asking questions to better yourself is never, ever a bad thing. I work for an unnamed nutrition company and sell lots of feed, your ration in pretty dang hot and will burn out a calf if you are not careful. I have never been to your operation, seen the cattle or visited with you so I cant really tell you what to feed. That much corn is too much in my opinion, it will burn hair for sure. Sometimes it is not how much you are feeding but also how long you have been feeding. If you find yourselves continually pushing your steers at the end to finish them try increasing feed earlier in the year. Eating a lot in the end is good, but making sure your calf is finished and primed is even more important.
Before you speak with someone make sure you are prepaired.
what is your end goal of the steer?
what does the steer weight? What do you want him to finish at?
what feeds are accessable to you? outline how you have been feeding cattle in the past.
how are you feeding? in a trough, feed pan, tied up, loose, etc.
when you speak with someone just keep an open mind. there are a million different ways out there and sometimes the best to suit you will be a combination of others. don't be afraid to make a change in your program if it makes sense to you and will be beneficial in the end.
Take care and good luck with your calf
