Going to Clarenville, Newfoundland on Feb. 1st. I'll be there for 10 days, don't know that I'll have much spare time but if I do is there anything interesting there?

Newfoundland is an awesome place with terrific scenery and you will love the people. I would guess you are going hunting? There is not much of an agricultural industry there except for dairy, chicken and some cropping. Definately take in some whale watching and/or iceberg siting. I have only been to Cornerbrook and they have an excellent alpine ski resort there called Marble Mountain. If you want to come to the other east coast island I'd be happy to give you a tour!

Try to get out in a boat and check out the coast line, it can get crazy out there so be careful though....or....you could drink Screech Rum and kiss Cod fish in your spare time.

Try and find inniskillin winery and try their ice wine,  an outrageous dessert wine. Waaaaaaaaay better than muscat.

Inniskillen winery is the wine you try when you're visiting the Royal Winter Fair. I know that they were one of many wineries at the show.... most beautiful commerical exhibition anywhere....the Royal Winter Fair.. Yes- the icewine should taste better then most muscat,  riesling left on vine and harvested by hand after freezing temperatures - exteremely small quantities. Last I knew Inniskillen does practice traditional icewine ways... this might also be a good stop for Cabernet Franc too??

If your work requires a high level of cognitive function stay away from the screech.  That stuff is nasty!!!!

I haven't made it to " the Rock" yet myself , but I have been to Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick many times. All I know is that any Newfie I have ever met has one powerful accent and also has had a great sense of humour. I would suggest you are going to come home holding your sides from laughing too much!  It is OK to try the screech but be careful with it. It is some powerful stuff and can knock you on your butt in no time. Be careful you don't drop a glass which contains the screech as it will probably put a hole in the floor. You could probably blow stumps out with this stuff. Have fun  along with your work there!
