The speech was good and I really felt like we have a President that seems like he is trying to do something about issues in the US... Unlike past presidents that give the same old speech and add to the problems that we already have.  I don't think that he will accomplish everything he said tonight but I hope he gives it his best to make sure that we move in that direction.  In case you missed it he will be saving allot of jobs, although unconventional, but I am willing to give him a chance to prove it to me than make narrow minded assumptions.  Time will tell....  :-\

Well, then he better get to saving those jobs. In case you didn't realize , in this stimulus check that he signed , there is more that will be spent in 2011 Thur 2014 than will be spent in the next 18 months(correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know about you but I know a lot of people that won't be able to hold on until 2011. Then throw in the fact that he will probably let the tax incentives run out in 2010 & will start taxing people that $250,000 or more about then, doesn't sound good to me. I mean I want him to succeed , you would be crazy not to. I just think he is going about it wrong, just like giving $900 million to rebuild the Gaza Strip back so the can blow it up again. That money needs to stay here.JMO.

Maybe he is going about it wrong... but a decisions have to be made and I am sure that he did not sit in a room alone and come up with this.... I am sure that there is a better way to go about it, but this is not a decision that can be made without effecting other issues..... To be honest anything that he (or any other president) would have come up with would have had a negative drop off in another area. I respect all the openions given because I don't care if it was McCain in office he would be getting the same criticism.... It is what it is...

McCain wouldn't have spent over a Trillion dollars in his first month in office!!!!  So no he wouldn't be getting the same criticism.  Then Obama started talking about the Trillion dollar deficit that he inherited!!!!  I wanted to leap through my TV and let him know what being fiscally responsible really means.

McCain would be getting criticized for not doing NOTHING... I hate to tell you that if a trillion dollar deficit was there before he was sworn into office... Im afraid to tell you he did inherit it... you really can argue that one....

I'm sorry but if your an American, Obama is your president. weather you voted for him or not.

Yuo're right he is the president of the US. I didn't vote for him & will never vote for him. But it's like Knabe said he didn't come up with this plan. They started working on in 2008. Now if it works (& I doubt it will) then he should probably get some credit for it, but not all the credit, the American people should get the majority of the credit for believing in this country & making it happen. Did you give Pres. Bush credit for gas prices going down last fall? Did you blame him when they went up last year? Obama talked about no pork in his future plans , but it sure is there.

One could argue that he brought gas prices down just so he could not go out as a total screw up.... If that is all you can come up with... Dont know what else to say...

He started with a trillon in deficit and this morning they are stating he is up to 3 trillion in deficit, all the while stating he is going to cut the deficit in half, call me silly, but I think we are going in the wrong direction??

Most people with you view point are much younger. Most people by the time they are 30 (start making real money)  realize that paying less taxes and bringing home more of your pay check is a good thing. Not giving it to your neighbor so they can pay their mortgage that they couldn't afford in the first place. Owning a house is a PRIVILEGE not a RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And what is wrong with having to save 20%? I think this would take out a lot of the bad loans in the future.

We all need to focus on what he does--not what he says!!   The political spin machine has never been warped up to this speed before to cover up all the spending.

What does an individual do when they get into financial trouble--spend more--I don't think so!!    We need to cut programs, not add to the ones already paying the unproductive ones in our society to stay home.   But everything I see so far is spend, spend, spend!!   What happens to a company who follows this plan of spending themselves out of debt---they become part of another company.   In this case its a group of countries buying up our debt so they will eventually have more control of our country and they don't have our best interests at heart.   In fact, generally they hate us and think we are stupid.   This is exactly how the world order changes over time.   How can we be a super power if someone else owns our assets.  In business its called a "hostile takeover" but in politics they call it "help from other countries" or "selling our debt"!!

Countries who do not like us are spending their money buying up our debt instead of waging a war against our military.   If they have enough patience--they will win without ever firing a shot.   How do you think many of the socialist thinking politicians got into office--I'll bet if you investigate their donor lists they are full of foreigners---if you can find them.   Much like Obama's financial support came through internet transfers that couldn't be traced.
The sad part is that the politicians who are making the laws actually believe they are doing the right thing.   They have had their egos stroked by being told how influential and good they are and then they are sold the "ways they can really help America"  They have bought into  "perception modification" (facts that are not true) for so long that they actually think they are doing the right thing and feel very noble about themselves for doing it!!!    By spending more we are actually helping those who want to see us fail--lets cut programs instead!!

Mr. President stated that he would liek to see children take one more year of "training" after they graduate, and alos make it impossible for kids to drop out.

Personnaly hate the idea of training, and not dumb enough to drop out.

These plans will never pass. And I know for a fact that of the 700 kids in my HS 99% of them agree with me.

He also stated by 2020 we would have the highest college graduation rate. (Too exspensive to actually happen)

I just didnt like his views on education.

But what do I know i am jsut a senior in high school who raises some cows

can't see his birth certificate, can't see his college records, can't see his financing.

He is NOT transparent.  he just wants your health records transparent so he can ration health care.

200 pages of it in the stimulus bill.

A tax policy that confiscated 100% of the taxable income of everyone in America earning over $500,000 in 2006 would only have given Congress an extra $1.3 trillion in revenue. That's less than half the 2006 federal budget of $2.7 trillion and looks tiny compared to the more than $4 trillion Congress will spend in fiscal 2010. Even taking every taxable "dime" of everyone earning more than $75,000 in 2006 would have barely yielded enough to cover that $4 trillion.

but don't cut spending.  heavens no.

and, he's going after the 2nd amendment already.

The Assault Weapons Ban signed into law by President Clinton in 1994 banned 19 types of semi-automatic military-style guns and ammunition clips with more than 10 rounds.

style is important.

saying your neighbor is going to get a free house, or they are going to take your guns, or they are going to abort 100 thousands of babies, just becaue they are democrates is really pretty old hat.  how manyof you actually live beside someone that is going to get a free house...i know some folks who bought to much house.....and if they cant afford it, i believe that they will be offerd a more affordable one ( theres plenty of them around ....more than plenty )...than be given monies to stay in a house out side of there means.......i believe the language is stay in " a" home.....not necessarly " that" home  ....i believe a more modest and income balanced home will be offered to these reciepents before any monies are supplied to unqualified folks.....and i do believe all " good " homeowners are going to get the same oppertunity to refinance at any lowere rates avaliable as well ....speculation based on old outdated politics, repub or dem is out the window now.....30+ yr olds are just now figuring this all out....its not simply apples and oranges....its just fruit salad....some times it just needs a little sugar, so everone likes it.  i think the 30+'s are starting to realize its not what you read on a forum or hear on a particular tv network, that has the answeres to there questions and concerns.....and i really dont think they understand the trickle down theory....or the abortion debate of the 60's, or the fear so many spread about a gorup of people that what all guns taken away....or having to pay for your neighbors house.....they arent seeing it....they are the only generation that seems to be willing to let things play out.....cause for sure  things cant get worse for them.....we're the generation thats getting all bent out of sorts with it....so for all you 20's/ 30's.....this is what happens to "older"  people when the government prints money...so please forgive us....sometimes we get this way...............jbarl

I'm just saying he's your president. I don't see how you can argue that. You might not have voted for him, but he won and you live in America; the people he represents...There are so many people it's hard to please everyone.I'm not talking about what they've done or planning on doing.

the government is using taxpayer dollars to pay for abortion.  even if it's one, it's too many.  it should be private money.  the government shouldn't be providing money for foreign abortions either, which they are.  they shouldn't be restricting guns because they look scary. it's a known policy to push for legislation to give up sovereignty to the UN to ban guns.  there are two people on obama's cabinet that are actually for that and we are one supreme court justice away from that as well as the most recent gun law in DC demonstrated where it was a 5-4 vote.  calling something old hat doesn't mean the threat of it is going away.  quite the contrary, there's a renewed vengence for it.

i don't see the difference between trickle down economics through hiring a person and paying them as opposed to doing that through government.  government is infinitely more inefficient to do this as it must trickle through a bearaucracy that provides lifetime health care and a better retirement that only reduces the wages that could be paid or prices reduced for the services provided.  plus, the government's idea of what people should have is arbitrary and based on class warfare for votes than actual value between two parties.

i get bent out of shape because i pay too much tax that is used for programs that have nothing to do with the limited scope the federal government is supposed to be restricted to, they have basically destroyed states rights.

why should "we" change if the government is approaching 50% of gdp?  what percentage is optimum, 100?  105?

incrementalism is the best way to hide the onset of tyranny.

here's one.

http://www.suntimes.com/news/metro/burris/1450607,CST-NWS-burris26.article#

he’s paid only $3,000 on a $300K mortgage in three years.  How did Burris II remain in his house for this long?

i know quite a few people in los banos that are staying their house for FREE, some for more than 6 months already.

one house across the street from me, they've been in their house without paying for about 9 months.  i just placed a lien on a house that owes it's water bill to our company that hasn't paid a mortgage bill for 2 or 3 months, but will have to as they are buying another house, supposedly.  they moved out and are behind on bills.  now i have to chase after them.

come to CA, they're everywhere.

When the president says he is giving the courts the right to "reduce the principle"(value of the home) that someone has a morgtage on and cannot pay for, I believe he is talking about "that home" not just "a home" that is more affordable.   Did you ever think that by giving the legal system the right to assign value to things like homes that they are effectively telling you what value you will pay property taxes on,etc.??   What's to keep them from raising the value if they set the precedent of decreasing values now?

What do socialist governments control--the banks--we've already begun to do that
industry--we've already got money with strings attached into the auto and steel companies
the press--they're trying to control radio--they already have control most of TV and newspapers
arms--they are doing everything they can to take away our right to bear arms

Jefferson once said "My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."

He also said  "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."

And finally  "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not!"

This is from the man who wrote our Constitution--think about it!!

smart you are oakbar.

nothing.  they are doing it already it through a variety of means.  why do you think the are doing this?  it's because states are losing property tax revenue.  the government is greedier than the bankers and the people who got subprime loans put together.  the feds want to minimize bailout costs to the states.  but it won't work.  never has, never will.

next will be health care, and this will be the means they will ration it.  it's already in the spending bill.  but we are too worried about democrat republican to notice.  nice job media.
