I keep having this daydream............. Im using genetics from places like Lauer's, Sneed's, Kapers, Coyote, Saskvalley, Lakeside, A@T, Meadowlane, Haumont, Dover, Hubs, Shoshone to build my ideal set of females.............................oh wait, Im doing it agian. I may have issues. I guess its better then daydreaming about twinkies and ice cream. Man I wish I had the cash. Just a daydream for now I guess.///JMO- From the few pics I saw you could  narrow it down a little-and do some AI-I like some of the Canadian cattle on the  X breds like you have-Youve already got a low BW base alot of Shorthorns Dont-and theyll probably make you happier at weaning time. Plus very few people in Canada are doing this other, other than the really neat X-breds posted on here.-Ditto with something thats got Lauer Blood,-Ar Sulu Osage is about the coolest all around bull -ditto on the 0-BW-and growth curves-If youve got some big ones-the Capt Obvious-et al.
When you get into some of that dual blood-they do what the numbers say more or less-but some look like harddoing dairy cattle, and personally Ive seen enough of them. One of the most impressive bulls I saw (along with Lawrence Grathwohl) wasWoodside  Unique Prophet-owned by Bradly Eisminger in PA. He was a Prophet out of a HUbs Cow-0 BW-and a beast-Bradlys a great person-and probably still has semen O0

I guess I am with sue.  Why is it that some people think that once we get cattle moderated down into the 5 frames we need to come back quick with bigger genetics before they get too small???? Thats hogwash.  I have been breeding 5 frame on 5 frame for over 10 years and our steers still kill at 1380 pounds, but they do it quicker and marble better than they used to and their mothers don't eat as much as our cows did in earlier times.  I am not a beleiver in the theory that you have to have frame and size to have weight and pounds to sell.  I don't think that air under them weighs much anyway.  Even before $7/bushel corn I didnt like big cattle, but even more-so now.

a and t , I love your avatar !

The heifer in this video weighed 785 yesterday.  She eats grass hay fed once per day, she shares a pasture with 15 others, they have a wind break and beautiful lakeview. I could take her to a show tommorw.

Thanks sue, glad you like the avatar.  You are the first to mention it and probably the only person on here that can tell just by looking at that cow that she has only had 1 bull calf her entire life. LOL! <beer>

at my place.. that cow looks like that.. w0uld only have one heifer calf in her lifetime.. not only that.. but the hiefer calf would get navil ill, break a leg, and then be a twin to a bull calf...  shit never happens as planned around here. (pop)

truth, actually, I cant complain too much about the rash of heifers coming out of the 244 family.  I still have every one of them and now have 2 grand daughters of 244 in the herd.  The only male animal that has been produced from this cow family was a&t rawhide and all he did was topped our 2010 bull sale.  This is as potent of cow family as I have ever dealt with in any breed! Bar None

trev, just knock some salt off those snowplow greenbacks, we can transplant these heifers into ohio, no problem.  They would feel like they survived the holocaust and went to heaven.

I dont know about the hijacking! But everything I own is for sale, for a price.  How serious are you Jody?

I'm serious in two ways..

1- I'm serious in the fact that I like the things your cattle have done, look like, and should do in the future.  I'm also a really big believer in cow families, and it appears that this is a "solid cow family".

2- I'm serious that I have none, zero, zilcho funds right now...  Don't get me wrong, I do not mind spending money on a worthy cause-- if it's something I need and have the money for at the time.  I have just graduated college, with all those "money stealers", and are due to start my new job with the USDA- NRCS next week.  I do know that we have a fall calf crop on the ground as we speak, that will be getting weaned and sold in Mar/ Apr...  but I imagine that when the time comes that money will be directed towards something "more important" than "adding to the cowherd".  Even thought it would probably make more sense to sell the calves we have, which are at step 2 or 3, and purchase something more towards the line of step 7-- which would allow me to get to step 10 faster, easier, and more efficiently.

I do have one real interested bargining chip for some people.. Send me an email... and we can talk there.  I dont know if you would be interested either, my luck you would shrug away...  [email protected]
