What heifer won it? I'm sure it was a solid red calf with a 80# bwt and was th and pha free of moderate frame and of honest age. signed "cynical old hippie from Muscogeee". ;D

Well...it was solid red...and I think she might be free both ways.  Winegardners won it, heifer that won my division (3) was reserve. We were directly in the middle of each of our classes, so not too bad for us.  I think my Abertees heifer could have been third, and Tom said she was awesome on the stand, but she really needs her toes trimmed.  Our March was a little too bowlegged for him (I agreed), and our January needs more thickness through her pins and is a little fat.  We were putting fat on her to try to fill her out from hook to pins more haha.  Both judges liked our heifers, and we got lots of good comments from folks around the barn. 

I got a really good picture of my Professor heifer, but we'll have to wait for Cindy to mail me the proof before I can post it here.  Wait until State, and I think she's gonna be awesome, and even better by NAILE.

Sounds like you did pretty good Justin!!!  (thumbsup) I'll be looking for you at NAILE, we'll probaly have a couple hereford heifers down there. I would love to see a new pic of your Abertee heifer.

What did everyone think of the steer show? A kid that lives right around here got Reserve Overall. I saw that steer last week and didnt think that he would go that far, but he was still a very nice made calf.

The steer that got 2nd to the Reserve was the best steer there easily.  IMO, the reserve steer should have been second or third in class and maybe not gone farther than that, but he was a real nice one.

Didn't the shorthorn assoc "adjust" their epd's about a year ago?  I heard a few "influential" big dog breeders"  had it adjusted to their favor?  Not sure on this, but thought that was the big scuddle a while back..... anyone with info?
I was going to use Salute, when he first came out, got the semen, and then heard nightmares about his calving ease, so there it sits, in frozen history!!

And yet, I have used Salute, and honestly can say that I have not assisted a calf from him yet. Guess what I am trying to say is that I think you can get calving issues from most any sire from time to time. A friend of mine had two Gizsmo calves that weighed over 125 lbs a few years ago. That is supposed to be unheard of also.

I was there at the shorthorn nationals this was my very first jr. natioanls (and i enjoyed every minute of it) and still am pretty new in the shorthorn business. I was looking in the show program and saw that their were many heifers that were sired by bloodstone. Where is everyone getting these bloodstone heifers is it through  cattle sales or are they buying semen and embryos? Also does anyone know how much bloodstone semen is and where I could get a hold of some ??? Thank you

the champion was raised by little cedar and was out of rodeo drive i can't remember the reserve but she was from cyclone trace i believe.

the second in class steer looked good but farrer claimed he did not handle as well as the first in class. he picked two calves that were very complete and paired up very well. there were only about 4 good steers. the last three class winners and the second in class to the reserve.

Actually alot of the bulls went up on BW EPD. Salute(8.4 BW .75ACC) as well as other Sullivan sires went up. Trump went up 4.3 EPD with 94 ACC., FInal SOlution 4.5 BW EPD., WHR Sonny 4.9 BW .92 ACC
These are just a few. I don't think any of these sires benefited from the "refiguring" of the BW's.

Thinks Ivoryacres, I will check into that. $700 is a lot for one straw i dont know if it would be worth it.

OH Breeder, Thanks, I just know there was alot of talk when they did it and for what reason. Seems like if every bull went up why do it?
I had heard (again, heard) that when they first refiigured the EPD's it was a huge change for some of the major bulls, so after some discussion (probably a warm up for the defect discussion) they revised the numbers once again and finalized the new "system".

The last I checked Bloodstone was no where to be found for any money. Either no one had it, or they wasn't selling. Good Luck shorthorn boy, let me know if your successful!!

I wouldn't waste your money on Bloodstone semen.  Unless you want to feed 45lbs of feed a day to the calf when it comes out, or your last name is right, you'd be much better off to spend $25 on something else and get a better calf.

the champion heifer was a rodeo drive x trump/mirage 544 bred by Little Cedar, the Reserve was a Solution x Sherwood Lady Crystal bred by Sullivan and sold to Hagie through Kolt Cattle's Simple Choices sale
