Hi again,
This time, I want to know if the WHR Shorthorn ranch has a good reputation among breeders and buyers. I would also like comments on the Notorious, SULL Sinister, and ABSOLUT SH bulls.
Thanks again.

Yes, WHR has a good rep & good cattle. Notorious- I've seen some good & some bad. Sinister & Absolut , are too young to have calves yet, but I like the looks of both & their pedigree.

WHR has one of the best herds in the business and they are great people. I think I would favor the breeding on the Sinister bull over the other two.

I think with any bull it depends on what you are using them on. I wish there was one choice for the great ones, but unfortunately we have to find bulls that click with our cows. What kind of cows are you looking to use them on?
WHR have good cattle and have an outstanding reputation. One of the breed leaders. I only have dealt with them second hand but never heard anything bad.

OK, Thanks guys!
Well, OH B,
I would be looking to for sure use a SH bull on a Blue Roan cow. She's really nice, but I don't have a pic yet. I would also be looking to maybe use that same bull on a Angus cow that is similar to the blue, only with more rib and fat. Both, I would say, are in the 3 to 4 frame range. The blue weighs around 1250 and the black is between 1300 and 1400#'s. Both have decent conformation with the blue having and "showier" look.

Bill Rasor and his family are one of the premier breeders of Shorthorns.  I don't know them well personally(although I have talked to Bill a couple of times and he's been cordial and helpful) but they seem to have an excellent reputation and have excellent cattle.  Seems like they do thing right!

MYT- I think that Sin City would fit the bill for your smaller framed cows, he's solid white, and has an excellent pedigree.

Also, WHR is definitely one of the best Shorthorn operations in the world, and they raised my favorite bull, WHR Sonny, as well as plenty of other outstanding bulls and females.  Lots of successfull breeders hinge their herds off of what the Rasor's have done.

I'm coming to find that! Actually, my cow just happened to have some of that Shorthorn blood left over from aways back. That's how the roan color kept showing through in her line, and I ended up with her. I want a good bull to breed her to that I can show the offspring of the mating and do well, yet have decent keeping heifers. In fact, she has had 3 heifer calves.

Well I think Sin City would work, but he HAS been known to produce some less than easy keepers, but I wouldn't say that is how he always breeds.  Another bull that would give you a nice blue one would be Manchild, but he's only half, and is out of a Double Stuff cow, and I don't know how you feel about those lines.

Thanks for the advice!
However, I did do some research on ole Manchild, and the main concern most of the way across the board was that he wasn't consistent and that big calves were a problem.  :-\ I really want a fairly solid bull that will give me a good package. I just don't have a big enough brood cow battery to be gambling with yet. On the other hand, you are more or less gambling when you stick in that Pipette. Would you go so far as to call Sin City a fairly solid bull?

I hear ya there..I have looked into Manchild quite a bit too, and I have decided to use either him or his sire, Hannibal on one of my premier ShorthornPlus cows next year.  Anyhow, I WOULD say that Sin City is a solid bull.  I have had more experience with Vegas, his full brother, but they breed kind of similar, with Sin City being larger framed.

Well thank you once again! I have narrowed it down to SULL Sinister and Sin City. Can't breed my cow to both though. I expect to be posting again soon with questions on other bulls. Thank you for all you guys' posts and time!

Don't want to beat a dead horse here, but Sinister is a Sin City son, and has no calves on the ground yet...and you said you want to gamble less if you can...I think Sinister will make a fine bull, but I'm waiting a year or two before I try him out.

Y'all don't know how much I appreciate this advice. I may just try that Sinister bull on one of my solid blacks and see what happens. Tough decision!

I think the cow Sinister is out of should make him a better bull than his sire. JMO

interesting statement...i'm not trying to start anything and perhaps i've read too much into your statement. i think that adding jane mary to a pedigree that already included trump and mirage 544(T90/mary rose 88T) will further enhance female making qualities of sin city. however, i don't believe sinister will sire competitive steers as consistantly as sin city. everyone is entitled to their own opinion and mine is that sinister will be a better female sire than sin city, but probably not a better all around sire. we'll start finding out here in about 3 months or so right? ;) once again not an attack on you shortdawg, your comment just made me think a little. wish my accounting professor could do that lol

The sign of a good bull is that he can produce progeny better than he is. Thanks for your comments !
