My point is, some stupid mistakes have been made along the way, and let's stop arguing about them. These cattle are all considered Shorthorns and we should atry to use the best we can. Personally, \I started to use appendix lines when the Irish and the Illawarsa cattel were allowed in the closed herdbooks and in my opinion, there are many cattle in the appendix herdbook that are as pure as those in the closed book.
I have been searching all over the world for a female that totally goes back to Scottish bloodlines. I have yet to find one. The Breeders in Scotland have allowed Maine into their herdbooks but the consider Irish cattle to be less pure than the Maines. I don't know about that !
When I asked Donald McGillvary, the master breeder and owner of Calrossie, if he knew of any cattle whose heritage was straight Scottish bloodlines,he sadi" I sure hope not"He said these cattle were the reason Shorthorns were on the endangered breed list in Britain for many years.

No one is arguing. I just was stating an opinion. I don't have a problem using appendix cattle. It's just that I've got a couple of older gentlemen down my way that won't use anything with an asterik & when the assoc. allowed people to breed it off. Then they get confused real easy, when looking at sale catalogs. That's one reason why I'm trying to keep some of the full Irish genetics going.
