South Central Illinois ( Effingham ) same news. Most roads under water and just had local radio station report of a lake Dam bust and need help from any volunteers. Local rain amounts range from 3 to 8 inch's in past 12 hours. Many crops ruined and most have been without power until early morning so many basements flooded as well.I'm afraid to say this because when the rain stops it will stop for a long time but ............... enough is enough!!
Funnel some of it our way. We have had 1/4 inch since the 1st of the year!. With high winds and 102 above we have nothing but blow
sand, and grass fires. Our farmers are hurting, since cotton that was up has wind damage and the watermelon transplants cant be planted unitl the winds
stop.
I live up on a hill, im good O0 but seriously, last time we got pounded alot of fence got washed away and our creek flooded the whole pasture, so just what we need more rain
zach, im not that far from you....probably 60 miles southeast...ill take any rain you dont want!!! we had such a dry year last year, our pastures need all the help they can get! and we need relief from this heatwave!!!! third day over 90 and it looks like it will be that way until next wednesday! humidity is terrible!!!!! bad O0 days are among us!!! thank heavens for scrunchies and baseball caps!
Thanks for thinking of me. I'm like Zach, my house is on higher ground. I think Indiana got it worse this week than I did. Heard from someone in Indiana on Thurs and they had 5 inches the day before.
I got 1.75 inches Wed, 1 inch Tues. 2.5 inches last week and 2 inches a couple days before that. Last night's storms were all north of me. Yes, enough is enough. Lots of crops not in around here and little hay in. Most of the hay that has been bailed got wet before they got it up. My hay really needs cut, but who wants to drop hay on wet ground?
Really need to get my pasture taken care of. Had someone here yesterday looking at a heifer and he never got a good look at her. Hard to see them when you are in chest high grass!
One of my neighbors lost three cows to lightening in Wed night's storm.
Would love to send some of this rain and high grass to some of you that need it.
Well, we got a storm through here last night. Over 5" rain in less that a couple hours, lots of flooding in low areas, roads washed out, water in basements etc.A car fell into a washed out road and persons died. Another line of storms is over the lake and will hit us in about 30 min. Next two days are predicted more of the same. Guys have not been able to get hay cut and dry for over a week. Most all the crops are planted but now with the flooding and wet areas who knows, maybe they will still need to replant. Also will have trouble getting on fields to spray and put on Nitrogen on corn.
At North Daviess (my county) high school volunteers have been filling sandbags, trying to save Elnora. A person had to fly to get from Indy to Evansville over the weekend. Usually droughts are worse than floods; however, this is a 100 year flood for much of central & southern Indiana. An additional 2-3 inches are possible later today & tonight. Prayers are appreciated. Radio has had live coverage of flood. It is very surprising that so few have drowned.
All the river bottoms crops will be destroyed.
http://www.heraldtimesonline.com/ This has pictures of Worthington, Spencer, Martinsville, etc.
Northern Iowa is flooded as well. We have to clean out our entire basement--and inche or two of water in a finished basement doesn't work very well. We had six tornados in Worth county on Sat night and recieved over 8 inches of rain. That was on top of 3 inches, and 2 inches within the previous week. Several towns around us Mason City, Charles City, and many smaller ones have no water or electricity available. Good friend of mine took a direct hit from a lightning bolt on his house yesterday and started a fire. Got the fire out but he'll have to replace all the wiring on his entire farm and get repairs done to his house.
Well, break's over--back to the basement for more cleaning!!
Here in Oklahoma, we have had normal rainfall UNTIL today. We have a major storm that has been raging since last night. No bad weather, just lots of rain and hail. Hate to even say this after reading the previous posts. Seems like it is heading toward all of you that don't need it. We have had 3" so far and it is still pouring.
We live 35 miles north of effingham and the wind blew so hard on friday afternoon that my fathers in-laws 8x20 Wilson trailer went over on its side and slide 15ft where it hit the shed. O0
We are in Putnam Co Indiana along I 70. I-70 was stilled closed to Westbound traffic this morning due to a large peice of roadway missing. We just received another soaking. US 231 south to Spencer is one lane due to roadway giving way. I will post some pics of our small creek later. I may start building arch.
WOW! I just drove through Petersburg, Washington, Elnora, Newberry, Worthington, Spencer, Cloverdale, Greencastle & Crawfordsville last Wednesday. And I went up to Effingham, IL about 2.5 weeks ago... now that whole area is underwater! I'm 5-6 miles from the mouth of the Wabash & I bet we end up with some flooding down here before all is said & done. Flooding is no fun & that whole area is in my thoughts & prayers.
I have heard of a few families that got hit, but still waiting on more reports. Keeping them, and my family, in my prayers. The Indianapolis Star has some amazing, heart wrenching pictures on their Web site- http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/99999999/NEWS/80605045.
