OK - it could be a fluke but this year I had absolutely NO cow or calf bawling when weaning - I had 2 groups of pairs and had creeps set up in the barn where the calves would go to eat and get away from the mothers. I would lock them in periodically - esp when the weather was so miserable and they would all hang out in front of the fan. When it came time to wean I just locked them in and that was that. The cows can still see the calves but are being fed away from the barn - it was so quiet I went out a couple of times to check to gates (I have gate openers) - quieter than the fence line weaning - amazing and nice ;)

sounds like low stress weaning to me.

We usually have them bawling for a bout 3 days. Never have had too much trouble. Ours can still see the calves but no one can steal. It works out well for us.
