Might try weighing a 5 gallon bucket of feed at the feedmill on their digital scales and then see what your deal show them at. Then for Shorthorn just take off 10 pounds cause of their shape. ;D

You could try to use a couple of 50lb bags of feed. I assume that you are wanting to ck out your spring scale to weigh newborns.

I have put something of a known weight such as a couple salt blocks in a feed sack and then weigh it on the scale. It can be most anything that you know the weight of.

ok you guys , I got it... I'll just put 2-3 bags of lead shot in a bucket, weigh it on the bathroom scale and compare to the spring scale ... thanks... prolly shouldn't have been very hard for me to figure out

Most of the calves were born in the snow this year but... I convince mom and the baby to head for the spring scale at the barn . No it's not right at birth but I would touch em before they got up and  nursed anyway.
I balance a couple times a year with a new bag of mineral.
