What Is This?

Found this on a one day old calf back. Look like he has been scaled or something. Anyone ever saw this before?

My guess would be that a predator pounced on the calf , and it was able to escape. Possibly even a large eagle swooped in to grab him by the back. That's just my guess from the pic.
