I'm planning on AI'ing my shorthorn heifer sometime in September, but I am having a hard time finding a bull I like (not to mention this is only my second time around I'm a little scared!) I'd like to have another clubby calf with some extra height.  This is a picture of her, and if any of you have any recommendations or suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated!

SS Deadwood or PB Kryptonite would work on her I think...what is her breeding?

You could you use an easy calving red angus bull.  that seems to cross up pretty good with the shorthorns.,,

It's going to be hard to find a clubby bull that will add frame & be an easy calver. You might take a look at ALM Chiller.

Gizmo will not add frame but will add grow and style. I think you will be impressed with the vigor of the calves as well.

That's true, but those bulls will make the heifer even smaller.  I think Gizmo or Deadwood is the way to go on her myself.

Doctor who is clubby ok for heifers with some caution, and will add some frame.  He is alot bigger in person than one would expect.

Cates have bred alot of their Spike daughters to Bloodstone and I think it would work the other way around.

I like the Sin City calves we got.  The one from a shorthorn/Maine cross cow that we bred to him had a little two much leg, but he was really nice every where else.  He really out grew every thing on the place.  The one from the Maine/Brangus - Charlotte cross heifer was super nice.

With line-bred bulls the pool of genetics is so much smaller and denser. Actually, you may see less "change" than with composite-bred bulls. Bulls like Wymore will pull their progeny toward their type and kind, the farther away the damm is from the sires type, the more change will occur. The realistic term is "predictable consistency".

I like the Wymore suggestion the best. Clean, proven calving ease @ an affordable price. I thought about Sin City until I remembered " heifer ", that takes him out for me. One other bull that I would think about, would be Gig. Joe. The Ma X Sh always seems to be a great cross. Elbee, what do you get for certs. on Wymore if they get  a heifer or great bull calf?

As far as calving ease I would recommend Jake's Proud Jazz or ALM Chiller. But I know they will not add frame. The way I always look at it is....it is better to get a small live calf the first time around and then go for the gold the second time.
