Just wondering when buying club calves how much (if any) value is added when a steer is halter broke. Back in the day (20 years ago) everybody said it was worth $100.00. What's it worth now?

I would say at least $100.  Somtimes it can be worth thousands...(see post on healthcare)

Someone couldn't afford me to break one out for them!

But for a calf I'm desperately trying to get sold cause I'm tired of spending money feeding him and he's just too good to send to the feedlot - its pretty much free! ;)  And that's the way it usually works for almost everyone.

Seriously, you should take that into consideration when buying calves as to whether they are broke or not.  You can't quantify what its worth, but personally I'd a whole lot rather spend $1500 on a halter broken calf than $1000 for one that it isn't.  That eliminates a lot of uncertainty/risk and makes it a lot easier on your kids.
