I have a few questions.  Are all wormers safe to use on bred cows?  Also, has anyone used Masterguard 10 to vaccinate?  I have heard that it can be used on bred cows safely. Thanks for the help!

I routinely worm my cows twice a year -- this means they get wormed once while bred. Never had a single problem, I usualy use the pour on Ivometin based products.

Have never used Mastergaurd 10, so I can't say if this is a live virus producr or killed, I would assume by the name it is a Live Virus.

Using LIVE virus products, you must be carefull never to use on a pregnant cow UNLESS she was also given the same product earlier that year while open. If you maintain a minimun 12 month program, then in future years you may use it on your bred cows that had first been done as opens.

I would be less than diligent here if I failed to tell you to first off READ all the labels on any drug you use, it can save many thousands of dollars of lost calves due to a bad reaction.

Hope that will help you out!

Terry-
Thank you for your response. Have you used Cydectin before? I had a cow off being bred, and I think she came back with some lice.  I have heard that Cydectin is good, but have not used it, mainly because the "generic" Ivomec pour ons are more reasonably priced.  Thanks for the info!

Cydectin is fine.  We've used it exclusively for two years.  It also does not have withdrawal time.
