I noticed that a lot of farms are having private/online sales of club calves.  The calves are only three to four months old max.  Do they take them off the cow that young or just sell them and you get them later that fall.  Also how do the calves look like they been on feed for months allready but i know they cant be.

We try to start selling calves at this age just through private sale, usually farm visits after seeing a picture of the calves. No feed or clipping done, they are just roaming the pasture with their mommas. If one is tame enough for us to comb freestanding in the pasture we will, but that is it. In the past we have worked it so that a deposit is put down on the calf when purchased, then the calf is picked up when weaned and the rest of is paid then. We also try to meet any of the customer's needs when it comes to having the calf weaned by a certain time.
