« on: June 25, 2012, 08:19:38 PM »
We always have all the cows on pasture from about may to september and rarely fed hay along with them until late august and we are doing it already and 100 degrees called for on thursday to boot here in Ohio!

We aren't feeding yet but it won't be long. And we will have a hard time having enough to get us through the winter.

started feeding hay in April here-- but this is someone who cares about their pastures and doesn't want to nub them down to nothing... although that's happening anyways...

been a year next week since we had a rain that yielded runoff.

I am.. but I keep all my show calves inside . so i guess thats why.. this Michigan weather has been weird lately. but When we have feeder calves out in the pasture we always throw a round bale out.

Come to NW Wisconsin! We've had more rain lately than we know what to do with. We've got green grass coming out our ears, but up until the last week, have had a hell of a time getting the hay put up. We will also probably see our first snow in about September this year too!  ;)

Southern most part of Ohio here, is it really that bad out there? How many cows and calf : acres are you running? I just got done bush hogging 40 acres because it needed it. 20 cows on 50 acres here, looks like they'll have a great start going into winter this year.

The livestock (show) industry is a tough one- if you've never had anything worth a damn you might as well go on the internet and rundown everybody you can.

I think everyone in colorado is. 13th fire I think it is broke out today in eastern colorado 40 thousand acers burned in just a few hours. I'm betting over 200,000 acers burnt with whats in the south and mountains. Tomorrow supposed to set state record for most consecutive 100+ days in history with no chance of rain into next week some time.

Was in your same situation here in Texas last year. Thank God we have gotten some rain this spring/summer. We fed hay all last year and it was bad hay at that. Will send prayers your way....we know what your going through.

Western Ohio in Darke county, pastures are all dried up, started last night, we aren't going to have enough hay.  Found a field of grass hay and they won't eat it, guess it was to late and getting rank.  We aren't probably going to have a bean crop.  We just farm 36 acres, no crop insurance.   Hope it rains some time this summer we are going to tear up the beans and plant sudan grass.  Better not be using so much corn for ethenol this year, the livestock need to eat also.  Open the capped wells in the western states Mr. President!!!!

We have been feeding hay for a month now. Pastures are all dried up, no rain. Got about 70 head of cows with calves on them. In northeast Ohio here. Ponds are down well over a foot

John Humphreys said one year it got so dry that they had to feed big bales, two at a time--the first one went down in the crack in the ground--then they set the second one on top of the first.
