The people in Iowa voted it down, BUT the Iowa Supreme Court decided to pass it in spite if what the people wanted.

Elton John thinks American gays are not smart by wanting to call it "marriage". They have legal unions in the UK that give you the same rights just without calling it "marriage"

roundrobin....We've already been down this road & no good will come out of this.

kk...  You just called the majority of people in Iowa, "close minded, dumb redneck idiots & bigots."  The majority in most states, for that matter.  I'm impressed that you like to label those that don't agree with you as "bigoted, closed minded, dumb redneck idiots" just because they think differently than you do.  A whole lot of extremely intelligent people disagree on this board all the time & that doesn't make any of them an idiot.  Weren't you taught to be tolerant of other peoples beliefs?  The sad part is, those teaching & adhering to that stuff are usually the least tolerant of all!!!!

Those with a homosexual agenda like to throw out the word "homophobic", but yet they are often the most "phobic" of those who disagree with them & they are often the most intolerant bunch that I have ever been around.  kk's post is just more proof of that.

Furthermore, why isn't it "close minded" to think that homosexual marriage is OK?   Actually, it is close minded to think that it is OK & majority in Iowa agree.

I think that what we are saying is that marriage is an institution between a man & a woman & it has been since mankind was created.  Actually, Marriage was ordained by God.  The scriptures say this... (Ephesians 5:31) "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh."  Only during the last several years have people begun to challenge that historic fact.  We also are doing lots of other crazy things in this country that were unthinkable 50-100 years ago, yet we wonder why our weather & so many other things are so messed up.

The part about this post that bothers me the most is the comment "Are their that many sickoes in iowa."  I wasn't going to say anything, but I just can't not.  My husband and I's very best friends are a gay couple.  These men are very successful business men -- In the agricultural industry, nonetheless-- and would go to the end of the world to help us, their family and other close friends.  Not all homosexuals are taking part in gay pride parades or even care to have the ability to be "married".  They simply want to be able to live their lives without being judged or called names.  Please take the time to get to know these individuals before labeling them and calling them names, just as you would want done for you and your family.  JMO

God is the creator of all things visible and invisible. Therefore he made gay folks. So I think some should just tolerated it instead of hating. And yes, I think they should have the same rights as anyone else.

We are talking about a union the two people here. So this idea as to what's going to stop a man from marrying two or three wives etc. is not an excuse and is poor reasoning in my opinion.

Zach,
Regardless of the issue being discussed here, I love your quote "Think with your mind, not your mouth"  Sometimes that is good advice regardless which side you are on in any discussion.  (It has been a hard lesson for me to learn over the years!  Good for you if you learned that this early!)

Happy Easter all, Remember what Christ did for you!

Roundrobin- We've discussed this topic at length, and if you want to discuss it, that's perfectly fine, but try not to insult a whole group of people because of their sexual preference.

KK- glad that you defended the gay community (I don't care for prejudice of any sort really), but next time please try to reel it in.  People on here will take you more seriously if you are a bit more choosy with your words.

Now for my thoughts-

I don't like the idea of Gay "Marriage", and I don't think it's right.  I DO believe that if two people are in love, that they should be able to become one in a union of some sort.  Telos is right when he said that God made us all, and he made Gay people.  He loves ALL His children, and I really kind of think the way that you treat others that are different from yourself and/or your beliefs might be something of a test for all of us and see if we are able to forgive and get over our differences.  I'm sure there are a fair share of Gay people that I wouldn't like, but I have Gay friends and they're dandy people.

Simmgirl03 & zach... I don't doubt your stories at all.  Actually, I have several homosexual friends.  My wife used to work at a children's home & the management often invited me to do volunteer work their as well.  Several of those girls were bisexual or homosexual & almost all of them had been promiscuous, including the heterosexuals.  We both cared deeply for those girls... in fact, if it had been possible, & if they weren't in their teen years, we seriously would've considered adopting some of them.  We still think about them.  Very nice girls & probably many of them were uite a bit better than the typical high school kid.  They are now out on their own & have moved away, etc, & we miss them.  One of my good friends in the 1st grade was gay.  We were friends (not best friends, but friends none the less) throughout HS & still talk when we see each other.  Some of the guys that I used to hang out with when I was younger (teens/early 20's) were bi-sexual & at least 2 others were a homosexual.  A girl that I dated on & off for 7 years, her dad was gay.  Another real good friend had gay siblings.  A neighbor boy (lived a mile or so away), is homosexual.  A person that I am friends with who raises Lowlines is a lesbian.  Etc, etc, etc.  Many of them are as good as most anyone else.  No argument from me.

With all that said, I most certainly do not hate gay people... but I do not support the gay lifestyle, nor do I support any sexual lifestyle outside of marriage & that is no secret.  It's the those peoples business, but I a simply can't support it because of my beliefs.

Telos... you are correct.  God created everyone & He loves everyone.  However, God doesn't like any sexual relationship outside of a 1 man & 1 woman marriage, including homosexuality... I can offer you plenty of proof from His Word that He does not.  And here is just one example...

Romans 1:24-28... Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen.  Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion.  Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done.

I'll go along with the fact that many Homosexuals are very kind & caring... I'll go along with the fact that Homosexuals should not be mistreated, beaten up, etc... I'll go along with the fact that God does deeply love every single person, including every single homosexual!!...  HOWEVER, I can't agree that God approves of homosexual relations or homosexual marriage when His Word teaches just the opposite.  If you don't agree, then you don't agree with the Bible's teachings... many don't believe in the Bible & that is there right , but I do.  I'd tell you that Lowlines were a bunch of junky dwarf Angus before I'd ever dream of not standing up for what God's Word teaches.  It's important to me & He is real to me... I can't go against Him, even if that means that people wont like me.  They didn't like Jesus & they crucified Him... somebody may do the same thing to me some day too.  Oh well, I am what I am by the grace of God.  Not wanting to be confrontational at all, but I have to call a spade, a spade.

"He (God) gave them over to their depraved mind."

Utt-Oh!              Depravity:A wicked, debased, or perverse act of moral corruption.

That covers a lot of ground, guess we're right back full circle to the battle of Good vs. evil!

Better not be ly'in about those birth weights!

I do know any homosexual people. I mean it is not common to see a gay cowboy come riding up on a horse in the middle of the Sandhills. I think real cowboys had a hard time with broke back mountain.  I do however know of people accused of swinging both ways. That's their business. Now I'm not trying to feed a fire here and rarely do. Lol.  But it is hard for me to understand why god would create someone like that at birth and then not approve of their practices.

I can see it now... Council Bluffs is going to be like Vegas for homosexuals.  They'll all go there to get married.  I bet plans for Gay wedding chapels are already in the works...

Or birth dates!

Yes, it does cover a lot of ground... here is the rest of Romans chapter 1...

Romans 1:28-32... Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

That is a pretty hefty list of "how we should NOT be".
