This was posted on another board by what I guess is a former member. Actually I'm sorry to loose them because they brought a lot to the board.
ps - perhaps you noticed that the planet has gotten pretty boring - all that personal angst, issues with kids, disease and pestilence and not much cow talk....don't visit much anymore

My question is, have we gotten off track? Should we be more cattle oriented? I'm probably the worst for sharing personal issues but I still believe sharing helps all. I can't say how many people said that by my talking about depression helped them to talk about theirs too. I know Simmimom will agree she feels better in hearing she' not alone in having kid problems. And we've all been there for the timid showers & rooted them on.

However, if the majority feels we need to get back to the basics we will try to. As I've always said, this is a community board made up of all of us. Let us know what you're thinking.

I love it the way it is!  I'm almost insulted by her post on Club Calves, but I took a minute and said to each there own.  I love the kid topics and seeing what everyone else does and raises.  Those kids keep those of us raising show cattle in business.  There are future and if we can talk and help each other I say great!  I for one found so much love and support when my little girl was having confidence problems with her heifer last year.  Then this year I got to chat with another mom having the same problem.  I hope she found some confort that she wasn't alone.

So, in my opinion....bring on your kids, corgis, pigs, and other problems.  I think of you all as my internet family and cann't wait to meet a lot of you in Kansas City at Jr. Nationals!  The American Royal was great getting to meet common sense and Jill.  I even found one of the best friends a woman can ask for on here....Red.    Nobody makes you come on here, but if anyone wants to join our planet we welcome you with open arms.

Enough of my soap box!

Red - Personally I love it the way it is.  I hope that I was not one of the reasons they left the board, I just automatically thought of all of the great people on Steer Planet when I was having a bad day with my daughter.  I did not think about calling any of my close friends, I just thought I could get some good advice from some good ole cattle people that were very knowledgable on  alot of different subjects.  Think about it for a minute, why do you think you all have so many people that have joined the board lately?  It is because we feel like we are a family that can talk about cattle or whatever we want to talk about.  Just my opinion, I hope you don't change......Lisa      (thumbsup)

You can only hear the answer to "How do cure ringworm?", "Whats the best showfeed?", or "Whats the best new bull to use?" about a 100 times before you go nuts!

I still find this board to be more informative with more responses in a quicker time than anything else on the web.  Looks to me that about 2/3 to 3/4 of the posts are cattle or ag related.  I choose not to participate in the e-scrabble, name that tune, etc  conversations, but certainly don't mind if others enjoy it.  I think some of the more periphial topics keep the boad fresh and allows a constant exchange of info.  I would suggest a bias towards cattle related topics, but the personal has value as well.   Pick and choose those topics that you want to participate in.  the more .... the merrier!

I doubt it.

I'm pretty sure I'm one the reasons that the dragon doesn't roost here very often anymore...  LOL

I like it the way it is as well.  Look at all the personal help from the "Does Anyone have a 12 Year old daughter?" post!  I wouldnt change a thing.

Ditto  what  the  others  have  said.  If  some  don't  like  the  non-cowy  topics,  they're  free  to  go  elsewhere  and  I  wish 'em  all  the  best,  but  they  could've  stayed  here  and  just  not  clicked  on  the  threads  that  didn't  sound  cowy enough  for  'em.  I  don't  believe  the  cowy  topics  have  ever  wanted  for response/ discussion  here,  or  that  they  will  in the  forseeable  future,  but  it's  too  bad  that  we  lose  some  good  sources  of  information.  Everyone  who  posts  here  or  has  posted  here  has  contributed  to  what  this  board  has  become  and  to  what  brings  so  many  of  us  back  day  after  day  and  brings  us  new  members  daily.  So,  even  though  we'll  miss  those  who  don't  care  for  the  direction  we're  headin',  it  still  looks  to  me  like  we're  doing  alright...

I'm like a lot of you. certain threads I just don't read. For example the one about pickups a couple of weeks ago. no interest to me. I guess we all have the option to pick & choose what we want. I just know that i have made friends here & am closer to some than I am my own sisters. If I appear as a cheerleader I guess I wasn't one in high school so maybe I can be one now!  <party> <party>

I'm sure that I am not a fan favorite by some on this board, but I seriously do try to post more than just about Lowlines.  And amazingly enough, a few people on the board have either purchased or are thinking about purchasing Lowline genetics.  However, I also know that some on this board probably wouldn't use them if their bull went sterile, their semen tank went dry & the only available bull in a 300 mile radius was a Lowline bull.

Red, it's like you mentioned, people can pick & choose the threads they wish to read & the posts within them.  If we all liked the same things, nobody would ever be challenged to think & this board would indeed turn boring.  Personally, I like it the way that it is!!  I've even got a link to Steer Planet on my website!

I think its all been said, but, here is my little input. Thank you all for the information. There are some encyclopedias in this place.
I like coming here and reading the interesting post about the cattle industry as a whole. I think it is cool we can discuss trends and stuff. Occ. bereave the loss of an animal. That is fine with me. I don't have a twelve year old daughter but do have nieces and nephews that are with me quiet a bit. So, I might sneak a peek but it is not always my choice. TO Each their OWN! You can make some of the people happy some of the time, but you CAN"T make all people happy all the time. I don't get too wrapped up in personal "angst".

I really enjoy this board. Have learned a lot about a great number of topics, both cattle/ag related and common interest topics. I try to be a well rounded individual. I agree with others, if the topic does not interest you, just ignore it. Takes me way to much time to read everything anyway. I love this board but do miss some of the expertice from others. There seems to be a lot of intelligent, experienced people who post here, not just a bunch of kids although they are very welcome as well. Yes, there are some strong opinions represented but that is what makes us all look harder at our positions in order to defend them. If others want more "cattle" related topics they can always start there own threads here on SP.

I'm like alot of the others & like it the way it is. I feel more comfortable asking ? on this board , than the others. I'm also very honored to have met several people from this board in person & they are the same in person as on here. (clapping) (clapping) (clapping)

I am in the minority here - and that is fine - I am not interested in being well liked or popular - my original goal was to help inform people about TH and PHA - we did that. I don't think the board always has to talk cattle, but  I find all the personal angst boring - so I won't read it - just way too much information - if you all want to share you maladies, your diseases, your headaches, your personal problems and your issues with your kids with the entire world more power to you, it is of absolutely no interest to me. If I was a kid and my mother was talking about me on a cattle board I would be appalled - but again, JMO so please carry on as you like - it is irrelevant to me

there is such a thing as tact. not everyone wants to be reminded in every post of TH/PHA. As far as personal posts I think when you get close to people you share information. That is all part of a community. Parents understand things like that.

Until the internet or the site owners become Nazi's, this is a free country with free speech.   I think this board is a bit like a farm sale or a coffee shop.  It is a place where, for the most part, like minded people can come together to chat, visit, swap stories, share accomplishments or sorrows, and trade into.

Most of the time we center around cattle, sometimes not.  Take or leave what you wish.  If you do not like it, visit other sites.  With a membership of 1759 site contributors, you will get some variety.  Wouldn't life be boring if we all thought or spoke of the same things all the time.

Life is so rich....it is full of many exciting things.   For someone who has only  lived on ranches her entire life, I remind my family......cattle are our life, but there is so much more out there to add to our life experience!

I want the board to be a source for pha,th, and defect discussions. DL has stuck her neck out with alot of courage to face the th and pha deal head on. I have learned alot pha from DL telos and others. I admire DL for her guts and conviction. As far as the cat fights are concerned they can be interesting. I have noticed people from different parts of the country have different ideas on things. The board has given me insight things like this. :-*
